Hello Everyone,

I am new to the Wii U world, so new that I do not have a system yet, but planning on purchasing one today or tomorrow.

I have my old hacked Wii which allowed me to play downloaded games via homebrew off my my USB harddrive.
I barely ever played it because I am not much of a gaming person.

So my question is, if I were to get the Wii U, is there a way to download games and play them on the console? If I get a bare bone system with no games, can I download DK, Smash Brothers, Kart 8, etc...

Please let me know.

The Wii U cannot be hacked to play pirated Wii U games (yet..) and from the continuous patching by nintendo to every found exploit, it will be a long time until you can.

You can hack the vWii portion, but that is it.

So it is not like the regular old Wii. Got it.

So what is the point of hacking the Wii U and homebrews and everything else???

Hacking the Wii Mode will grant you all that you could do on the Original Wii and more (use the Pro Controller for certain programs).

It's a shame that people have to hack the Wii Mode in order to play their GameCube games.

I do not have a gamecube or anything, but the Wii Mode, I am not sure what it is nor what the vWii is. Would I be able to play non-legally obtained games from the wii on the Wii U?

Sorry for the n00b question

Wii Mode is only for Wii, GameCube games and such. Wii U isn't hackable yet.

Basically; you can hack your vWii and play backup Wii and Gamecube games as well as Emulators like NES or N64 as you could on normal Wii. However, there is no usable hack for Wii U mode.

I don't think that you should get a Wii U at all if you're only planning to play on it illegally.

@K3Nv2 Snow Day is pretty fun. My only bitch would be the camera controls, when you move around, say down, you have to move the right stick left or right to get camera to turn and get your view, other than that I like it so far.

From what people say pvp isn't even worth it
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I just been playing offline, and they give you a few bots here n there on your team to help battle. I don't think it's as funny as the other games tho, more battle oriented than humor, which kinda sucks, but I'm still early in it
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@BigOnYa, doesnt the game have a campaign mode?
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea, and co-op, but you can also start a pvp session and battle just with friends. You get special skill cards (powers) the more you play. And higher value cards, but you can only enable so many cards at a time.

If you can find enough for it

Toilet paper is considered the money, you collect and buy stuff with TP, kinda funny. Graphics are def better than the other games tho, I think they used Unity 5 engine.

I bet most people at the time still watched it in black and white
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, Many of them did before colour television was common.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Likely because black and white TV was in-expensive.

  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
It certainly wasn't inexpensive it cost the same as a new car back then
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
How much did a 1965 color TV cost?

For example, a 21-inch (diagonal) GE color television in 1965 had an advertised price of $499, which is equal to $4,724 in today's dollars, according to the federal government's inflation calculator.

@K3Nv2, take into consideration how economy was back then
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Yeah that's why they listed inflation rates
