hi guys, the local ebgames here sells wii for 48 bucks. I wonder if the price is justified? I originally came from southeast and will finish my study in few months and probably will never return to NZ again. I'm wondering whether it's worth the price... since wii is region locked it means I cannot play legit games from other region, is this correct? (most of my game collections are from NTSC-U, and I don't want to buy PAL games if possible).

my overall target, I just want to play gamecube and few wii games since dolphin emulator is still not perfect yet.

please let me know what you think about this offer.

I'm assuming US, yes? and what does it come with? any wiimotes or accessories?

You can get around region locking through soft-modding. You'll be able to play all regions with the right homebrew, including legitimate disc.

the wii that I'm going to buy is from PAL region. just wondering though, is there any wii that is unhackable? I see wii special edition (red colored), but I prefer to buy something that is hackable.

The best wii's to buy are the ones that have the wii logo which is the right way up when it is sitting vertically. These have the GCN ports as well as being able to play DVDs. But the DVD feature isn't that important, but the GCN ports are!

thanks to inform me that mate. the ebgames stated they cannot guarantee whether the wii they sell on their website have GC backward compatibility or not. oh well, I guess I will try my luck on auction site.

Wii Mini is unhackable, other than that you are good to go.

FYI Nintendont is a homebrew Gamecube launcher that allows you to play GC with a great variety of controllers like Wiimote+Classic Controller, PS2 and PS3 etc. So BC Wii are kinda useless right now. At least for me

Dont forget that Wiis may appear to have everything right and in the end the Wii doesnt have any proper GCN controller ports. Just holes on metal

Lol really?? Well he got screwed! Oh well.... But yes the original white or black wii's (can't play DVDs or burnt games but no real loss) are really the best. Just go on ebay or something like that and buy exactly what you want.

White can play DVDs and burnt games. The black wii cannot. But with hdd loading these days it's really a non issue.

The black wii have a new DVD drive that physically cannot play burnt games or DVDs.

Although if you need to remember that when you are in the process of soft modding your wii you need to have either an original non wii motion plus controller or a GCN controller to complete the task.

If you're still wondering. I recently bought a very cheap PAL wii, and was able to mod it into an NTSC console fairly simply. You just need to set region free everything on Priiloader and use Anyregionchanger to change the video output to NTSC.

I'm able to install NTSC Wads and all that without any problems.

Mine's a Black "Family Edition" Wii, which is probably what you want to get off ebgames. It doesn't have GameCube ports, but Nintendon't works on it, and it brings back GC compatibility. I just bought a $20 GC USB controller adapter and it works flawlessly. I'll say, go for it, it's great.

so I got my wii already. it's AUS version, now I'm just wondering:

1. can someone direct me to link of what should I do to hack this? I have seen so many homebrews, but which one I have to install first hand?

2. will it suffer slowdown if I use NTSC (wii/GC) games? and will it suffer slowdown if I hook it on NTSC tv (and play games from PAL region)? (I really forget the fuss about PAL vs NTSC, sorry).

First, congrats for the Wii

1- In the Wii subforum you can find tutorials for soft modding, use the ModMii method, it's easier and it has a step by step method.

2- Softmodding removes the region lock, so for the Wii side you can run any game from any region without problems and without slowdown (and that depends more from the device that you will load up the games anyway)
Edit: The PAL/NTSC thing is more a TV/Monitor side the Wii runs the game in the same way for both sides.

That's it. If you need more info just ask.

dang, it seems the seller forget to put sensor bar on the wii package. I was swinging the controller like crazy and nothing happened. oh well, I will bump this thread once everything is delivered.
