Yes and i think people, maybe myself are taking gateways report the wrong way. They quote "Just yesterday system firmware 9.3 was released and after quickly analyzing it we want to warn our users *NOT* to update their sysnand to 9.3 or higher if they want to enjoy our upcoming support. We repeat, DO NOT update sysnand to 9.3 or beyond."

They clearly have been blocked by the 9.3 and the newer 9.4. Also with 9.2 and below gateway support without emunand, your not going to play future games. At this stage a gateway is useless in the not so long term. They don't at this stage have anything left up their sleeve, lets hope the gateway devs are busy looking for a solution.

sky3ds if a 1:1 (i'm sure it is in operation, maybe not hardware) is only going to be blocked by vendor details stored in the hardware eg chipset, but then they can fork out extra for more expensive hardware for a true replica to avoid this. The saves will get blocked and we will go back to 10 a card without the limit of only using one memory card per sky, aka you'll have to have multiple cards with 10 per which is practical none the less for scrolling time.

For reference imho both gateway and sky are money grubbing scum.

I may eat my words but i think the unlimiting of sky3ds (although forced, greedy scumbags) coupled with the latest updates has put some solid nails in gateways coffin. They risk if they find a kernel exploit and releasing to soon, killing all cards (in a large scale profit sense) for a free solution which they will not do. They are clearly trying and always have been hiding and locking down their hacks tighter than a fish's asshole, when in reality your average joe pirate will generally pay for ease of hardware over a softmod and they will still retain some market.

Before the updates that stop emunand, and 9.3 which they can't exploit gateway was for your techy and homebrew pirate and the sky was for the average noob joe with its ease.

I actually see gateway doing a sky clone in the mean time while hoping they retain some loyalty in their search for a solution for those looking for more than just a featureless 1:1 piracy clone card.

Just the lost sales of the last moth would be substantial. Time to lay your cards on the table gateway, many are waiting,....

lol. you know how many times before emunand was blocked and how many times after it was fixed?

i think nintendo's 9.3 and 9.4 update will be different, because of ninjahax

You are underestimating GW. I doubt it's that easy to block emuNAND just because they found 1 of the 3 vulnerabilities required for sspwn. emuNAND has been used since before people cared about sspwn

Kernel Access = Ability of EmuNAND.

Why are people assuming Emunand won't work? Ridiculous.

It will work, that kernel access just has to be coded right to contain any leaks into the exploit like the dev of ninjahax has done. Makes for lengthy releases in an impatient scene and with sky unlimied, they really need to open up of fasten up. I for one would always go for the wide open solution or as open as we can with whats available, your average user wants games release tomorrow today, Thats life. If gateway falls to much i'll be devastated as those devs are working hard but consumers at the end of the day drive the market and at this very stage sky is king. A piece of shit king, but king non the less.

Any leaks? What do you mean? The way you worded it makes it sound as if the GW team is trying to prevent people from getting kernel access, which seems contrary to the point of a jailbreak.

This thread has been a hilarious read. xD

Anyway, on topic, I can confirm R4i Gold still works. It seems like Nintendo gave up on blocking DS flashcarts, which makes sense since they aren't making much money on old DS games anymore. If they truly have given up, then that's great news for me. That means I will be able to update freely without worry, at least until I start wanting 3DS homebrew.

Not so fast, thinks twice before buying the Sky3DS and not the Gateway.

Edit: These cartridges are expensives. Do what you want, I just wish you will not regret it.
expensives.. seriously guys ?
i bought 10 games on my 3ds for 20-25 euros each so don't tell me flashcards are expensives
the thing is people spam gateway 50 times a day for "when will it be released" or "do you support 9.x" and they must be pissed enough to almost auto reply
so all i know for now is that sky3ds support latest firmwares but gw doesn't. i don't care about 190 pages of speculations or fanboys.

Well living in a country with a strong currency helps. for everyone else, they are fcking expensive.

Kind of reminds me of the cat and mouse that exploiters played with Sony and the PSP. I'm sure the development team for the 3DS is working hard to block the current exploits.

Just like the cat and mouse game of Apple and Jailbreakers.

Gateway can easily lead to a "use the gateway once and fully unlock the 3ds" method and it would then become a tool for mod-shops and not consumers. Mod-shops will buy a few and charge like $20 to free your 3ds without a need for you to have any hardware.

They will do anything to stop this.

Similarly ask the dev of ninjahax, how much time he spent on the exploit to run hombrew and the launcher, and how much time he spent coding to keep it locked down.

There are other dev's here to that were coding in Bagh'dad when the devs of gateway and sky were still in Dad'sbag.

Unfortunately we don't live in a world of sharing, love, unicorns and all that.... As Metallica sang "sad but true".

Precedents have been set by the big gaming companies in the past. People risk for profit, not so much for helping for free. You never know maybe when Nintendo drops the heat a little, someone might bring a surprise to the community....

Well I just proudly ordered a SKY3DS from 3DS-Flashcard.com. I had a nice long and meaningful chat with their very helpful customer service person. I specifically requested the BLUE Button edition of the card. You know, the one with the "unlimited" capability. He informed me that they would be shipping Monday of next week and that I should hopefully have the card in hand by the end of next week.

When that happens, I will be updating my impressions and making a mini-synopsis of the card right here at good ole GBATEMP.

I have no qualms whatsoever about picking this over Gateway.

Why?

Because in truth, I hold no allegiance to either company. Neither do I own any stock investments with either company.
All of this fanboyism is both futile and infantile. Both cart companys are in business to make MONEY. Period.
And as much as I would like to think that they love me as a person, I know this not to be true. Profit is king.

Anyway, when the card arrives, I will answer any questions as time allows.
As for 'Nintendo being the enemy'. NO. just plain no on that.

Nintendo is our friend.

Because without them, there would be nothing to 'flash' to a card in the first place. Piracy cant be the first motive when making a purchase like this.
I personally feel no guilt, because I have purchased every single major and most minor titles on the entire e-shop. My Sky3DS is purely 'Try before BUY' only at this juncture.
I owe Nintendo and the hard-working game developers my honesty and my hard earned cash when it's a game that I know I will be playing consistently on my 3DS.
