so my guestimate is in about 14 days Gateway 3.0 Alpha(because why not and because this is to much a jump in functionality to call it 2.7) will be released to beta testers, and within 7 days of testing will be released to the public.
Why do i guess that, looking at the previous posts from Gateway they usually release their software 2 weeks after announcing it. and in some cases go for betatesting first.
Yes there are times where it took months after the announcements for release, but back then they were trying to figure out how to break it, now with the released video, its just a matter of adding functionality :D

tl;dr i'd expect release before xmas

There is also no reason to assume gateway will be holding back for the N3DS release in US/EU, And neither does nintendo wait for Gateway release to ship N3DS with 10.x firmware.
Why else release it Australia (PAL same as europe) even though they themself said the market isnt saturated with enough old 3ds models.
Any true fan of the system that plans on using Gateway from the get-go will import simply because gateway is region free, and i bet someday it will support translation of JPN Consoles into english.
Gateway will sell their product regardless of what nintendo does. And even if new firmware blocks the old exploits they might release a future update with a new entrypoint, Point and Case, look at FW 9.x that opened pandora's box again after nintendo closed it with 5.x-8.x

No one has the patience to wait until March.

It's bad for you, bad for Gateway's business, and heck, even bad for Nintendo (because they can't patch it if it's not released, I suppose).

It will very likely come before Christmas because Gateway are a business and businesses thrive on sales. To sell you have to have an advantage (which they did, but now other carts are rivaling them).

With this release, it will put GW team months ahead of the competition (including their direct rivals, SKY3DS, and all their 50 imitators with shitty clone cards).

Couldn't have said it better. Pretty sure this release will thrive GW sales for a month or two.

It's all planned really. These forums are proof of it. How many were skeptical of GW until they released a video? After said video, this thread became an IMPORTING 101 with BEST SITE TO GET CHEAPEST GATEWAY. The actuall release will move the rest of the naysayers.

That's just how it is. Simple :)

One question, is it possible for me to use the 1 MicroSD card for both the red and blue card?
It's possible, but you probably don't want to. I haven't tried, but I don't think the blue card will recognize an SD formatted w/ exFAT, and you're going to want to format your red card's SD that way, not FAT32. If you use fat FAT32 you will need to break up large ROM's in to chunks, and it's a procedure I think anyone would try to avoid if all they need to do is use exFAT.

Does the gateway drain the battery more than a retail card? (because of the constant sd-card reading?)

The GW is a battery sucking pig. It's comparable to using a SCDS2 in my experience (I have both). I can sleep my 3DS w/ wifi on (for streetpasses) for days w/ a legit cart socketed. And even w/ my Nyko Powerpack+ if I have the GW socketed (doesn't even need to be in GW mode, just in the slot), I will go from a full battery in the morning to the rapidly blinking red light the next if I forget to charge it between.

For actual use, I haven't actually timed it but I can assure you, you WILL notice the difference in play time on one charge vs legit carts... Unless of course you never use legit carts. :-)

I think the biggest reason we didn't see emunand is well, if it was written GW next to the settings then who's to say they were showing off a new exploit at all? They could have been on 4.x booting into 9.x emunand..the only way to prove it was running on system 9.0 was to leave it in sysnand.

Also emunand isn't some crazy hard thing to do with full blown access like they have, write a NAND image to ds a redirect the 3ds reading the NAND to sd obviously some patches are required but no one needs to worry gateway will obviously deliver and all the speculators will look stupid....again
Uh I don't know, the fact that it was running on an n3DS is proof enough that it's a new exploit. It couldn't be a 4.x system. Period.

I have a 3DS XL on the latest fw and like most of you, I'm anxiously waiting for the magical Gateway update that supports 9.x. BUT, if I order a GW card now, will I be able to verify it's in working order before the GW support for the newer fw is out?

In other words, I don't want to get the GW card now and have no way of using it and say 3 months from now (hopefully not), GW releases software that is compatible with 9.x, I plug it all in and find out the red/blue/or GW card itself is damaged and I need to RMA the device but UH OH......my 30 warranty expired and I'm stuck with a dead GW. :(

Unless the exploit utilizes something old, it only "hurts" them to release it now. The price of an import is already high, the price of an import on a 9.2 firmware would skyrocket once its patched, and pair that with compatibility that would suffer seeing as people would be outside of their respective regions.

Now, if they have something new and wait a few months, they get more customers who would have already bought the new 3DS sans the hack. Pair that with literally opening up the availability to native residents from entire regions (and arguably the biggest one) it's literally perfect for "business" or whatever morphed definition were using of it.

Uh-oh, did I screw up by purchasing this for my sd card? - G.SKILL 32GB microSDHC Flash Card w/ SD Adapter. The price was nice ($12) but maybe I should've gotten something a little more reliable...

Just don't update any further, and stay safe. The current Gateway on the market now will be compatible with the update.

Hello everybody!!! I have ordered a n3ds (japanese) on ebay. it is a used system (seller says he barely used it) so i'm going to assume its 9.x-9.2? I'm not sure what firmware the n3ds starts with, if anybody knows please reply!
but anyways, once I get it in the mail, would i be safe in buying a gateway3ds right now, i hear people saying that it willl be able to run on 9.x-9.2, but i'll just have to wait for the official release. (same hardware). does anybody know the process of updating the gateway3ds? does it happen on the microSD, or will I need a different 3ds in order to update it? I've waited a year for something like this to happen and i'm really excited :)

It doesn't matter what firmware the 3DS is on since the newest available firmware works with the Gateway.

You'd be safe buying a Gateway now as long as the Gateway team was 100% purposeful in saying the new hack will work with existing hardware. Worst case scenario, you'll have to buy some special third chip.

Updating happens via the MicroSD(s), yes. You will not need another 3DS as far as any of us know.

It just hit me that maybe gateway team is waiting on some of the upcoming 3ds releases to see if they come with a 9.x update? That would make sense.

I've had my G.Skill micro sdhc class 10 32gb in a Gateway for 6ish months now and it's working just as well as any other microsd i've owned

I didn't realise G.SKILL made SD cards, but if it's anything like their RAM it should be fine (although probably not very fast at that price).
