No multinand just mean no online, that doesn't sound too terrible.
With DEVmenu, we can install update and DLC without eshop so the only draw back is no gaming online.
You would still be able to go online you don't need the latest firmware just the latest version of your game, so installing CIA updates would make you go online :grog:

Also I can't almost guarentee there will be emunand just no real need for it yet but maybe it will also be there in the initial release since is does make everything you do including installing bad CIAs or whatever else could go wrong "safe"

The only reason emunand is absolutely needed is if a games uses something in the higher firmware that isn't present in older firmwares (i don't know exactly what but like smash bros or pokemon)

Precisely. And not only that, we may even get NDS support since they are not using the DS Profile exploit.
FYI: Reason they weren't able to run NDS games is because, if you installed the gateway exploit using the blue card and then proceeded boot into DS mode again (When you load a flashcart E.G. DSTwo, or a DS game, the system boots into DS Mode) after running the exploit, the exploit would be removed and you would have to reinstall it.

Let's look at another game.
Yoshi's new Island
  • Released March 14, 2014
  • The game ships with 7.1.0 in Europe
  • 7.1.0 was released in at least December 19, 2013
  • (If Nintendo was smart, they would remove updates alltogether from cartridges.)

Bad example. 7.1 had no publicly released exploits.

And requiring updates from carts is mandatory... Not everyone can get their 3DS on-line especially in remote communities and impoverishe nations... And for other reasons: Even in my neighborhood, where there are tons of wifi hot spots, there are kids w/ 3DS's whose parents have turned off their access to the internet via parental controls.

Just double checking, the current gateway that you can buy today is still updatable. I somewhat think I dreamed that it was posted here but maybe I did see it.
Anyone confirm? I don't want to spend money on something I couldn't use :P

I finally made it through the 41st page...

God... I got really excited when I saw the video, I couldn't believe they got all the features on the 9.2 firmware...

To be honest, I'd like a new 3DS since my old 3DS is a bit damaged and the battery doesn't last a single day even in sleep mode. But I wouldn't invest in a new New 3DS since I don't feel like getting one that doesn't correspond to my region and it's for sure it won't be cheap (I'm a bit done in investing in the 3DS era).

Nevertheless, I congratulated Gateway for making their way through the (currently latest) 9.2 firmware some weeks ago (since I feel very proud of them).

The 3DS scene has finally reached the top of the mountain and there's not too much left to do now to the console itself. The time of customised games has come, and the only truly missing thing to accomplish now is emulation in PC (but that's another completely different topic).

On a similar note. FUCK YOU, SKY3DS. c:

so this is just a regular Gateway 3ds like we have in the past with just a FGPA update? or an entirely new Gateway just for the 9.XX?? is this the reason they advice us not to update?

yes, gateway have said it will be the same card.

A bit early to say that. We still don't know if emuNAND works or not.

It doesn't matter... seriously. Why are you worried about that? They obviously wanted to show off that they are finally not relying on emuNAND to get the cart working on the latest firmware (actual support for the latest firmware).

Knowing that it is a kernel exploit, there's little to nothing to worry about.

Yes. The current kit can be completely updated.

It can not possibly require the blue cart (it's been blocked since 5.something I believe), and multiple emails from GW have confirmed it doesn't require anything additional hardware wise. GW has never announced anything they haven't delivered. There is zero logical reason to think that this isn't the case this time. You are always taking a risk buying a grey market product. At least this risk has a proven track record and video evidence. You make the call, but this is as good as it gets currently and there's no good reason to think you'll be buying a paperweight.

happydance: There is a good chance that it doesn't even require an FPGA update. The kind of control they seem to have is done at a system level through software/firmware patches. If that's the case there is no reason to re-purpose any part of the FPGA. I suspect all you need is the new exploit to install on your SD or scan as a QR code or whatever and a new launcher.dat file. I could be hopelessly wrong about this, but I currently can see no good reason to do so.

Hey everybody, my 3ds just came in today so I'm a bit of a 3ds rom/flash cart virgin (insert whatever joke you wish). I updated it to 9.2 since it was set at 8.1 when I fired it up. My question is, will this old tutorial for the 4.5 version still apply to the 9.X version, or will there be a new process to learn? Should I get a Gateway asap? Thanks and happy to be here :grog:

9.x will have a new initial setup process (yet to be revealed). There's no rush to get a gateway, but some think prices will go up a bit after 9.x support is released due to supply/demand.

Simply put, we don't know if the process will be the same. Gateway will have guided instructions in the form of text or a video on their site once the 9.X exploit is made public for its users.

Your choice on getting it now or later, will be the same hardware either way.

Yeah that's a given, of course that's why I was very skeptical. You won't really get proper support from such products however, it never hurts to check. It good to hear Gateway look after their customers.

i am sure people have said the blue card is still recognized on firmware 9.2 all it needs is a firmware update from gateway and it would run.

Gateway won't give support to the DS card (blue card). They have shown that position since the beginning. The blue card was just put there as part of the launcher and given that won't be needed (as they have stated there won't be need for additional hardware), they won't worry about it.

There are updates compatible with the model of this DS card, yet GW hasn't update the files of it.

For all you guys that are new to Gateway, you must know that the developers behind the blue card are one of the generics R4i teams. Just wait for DSi ware dumps or get an actual DS flashcard.
