How is this newsworthy if his Tweet isn't all that groundbreaking again?


Because the scene is so slow for WiiU and no one's produced anything that could actually be verified as newsowrthy, so now everything is newsworthy! Yay!

Seriously it's like all these hackers out there are just trying to stroke their ego more and more than actually do anything or proving anything nowadays

Yeah pretty much. Many have an ego to stroke it would appear.

I'm actually more surprised that there isn't more Wii U disc dumps. Just look at the PS4 and Xbox One.

Sorry? Are people actually decrypting and re-encrypting Wii U ISO images? I thought we needed a common key for that.

No...never said that. All I said was that I'm glad people are noticing that some people are full of air while others are actually working on developing exploits and the like.

But no release, because "Without any keys the program won't be able to do anything for you." That confuses me, because every NFO file for a scene release contains the title key for a game, which was obtained by using the common key, so doesn't that make the common key not needed? Is an additional key required? So many mysteries...

lolz this has been around for a while now :P crediar even post the audio files of games as well as the .bars and a few .szs from mk8 as well as other wiiU games can't link site directly but i will say ''forum'' ;) http://www.hcs64.com/mboard/forum.php?showthread=38505

Yes, some people actually have it, as I have said many times before. They're not going to share it any time soon, but yes, they're able to dump discs and then decrypt the contents to get the files of any game.

That's the other thing that pisses me off, those that can, can only stroke their egos and be brutish braggarts about it. Typical hacker anti-piracy pusillanimity. I don't have high hopes of us ever getting to that level for some time. I doubt they ever will share it, because of unsubstantiated BS or something. This is why I'm having a hard time being more positive in the Wii U scene, you know? Why bother when developers are so effing selfish? I'm just not feeling it.

It's not their job to give everyone the stuff they've worked on, especially since you could do it yourself.

Then what should the others who are working on Wii U hacks do then? Not everyone is as skilled at programming as they are. TBH, it would've be so much better if they never brought it up at all. Do it myself, how, see, there's the issue. Not exactly adept at programming. Okay, so they won't share, that's fine, but, where does this leave the hacking scene for the Wii U as a whole? I honestly don't know what to do anymore, much less no idea what's going on in the scene :(

I'm sure that the common key will be leaked eventually, via a RAT on one of the hackers that has it or decryption of an ODE. Or maybe someone will share it the easy way.

Wouldn't count on it, like I said, many developers are unfortunately, braggarts. And ODEs...ugh.

Now if actually playing ISOs would require an ODE but decryption could be done on a PC, that would be glorious.
 
Not everyone is as skilled at programming as they are. TBH, it would've be so much better if they never brought it up at all.
It would be better if you could simply think "that's cool" and ditch that childish sense of entitlement that's prevalent on this forum. You didn't pay him anything, he didn't promise you anything. Grow up.

Hah :p If the encryption is implemented properly, then it does. Snowden said this as well - proper encryption is one of the only things, NSA cannot break yet.

Indeed sequential would most likely be better, but the keyspace is so huge that it doesnt make a difference anyway. The chance of just a single collision with the current speed of computers is abysmal.

If the key is 16 bytes (128 bit), which I saw someone write earlier, it would take more than just a few years to bruteforce it.
My home computer can bruteforce about 2^36 (36 bits) of key-combinations per year. However its from 2008, and its safe to assume that a private person can bruteforce a key of about 2^40 bits per year.
Since a key of 41 bits takes double the length to bruteforce etc., a key of 128 bits would take 309485009821345068724781056 years to bruteforce... Even if we used the cloud, and we assumed it was 1 billion times stronger than our home pc (which it isn't), it would take around 309485009821345068 years bruteforcing it.

Bruteforcing is NOT feasible of a key of this length, granted the underlying cryptographic primitives has been implemented properly.

I do not know which encryption algorithm that has been used for this, but I would guess its likely AES128 if its symmetric or some elliptic curve if its asymmetric (public/private key based).

There are no feasible way to break any of these. The best attack on AES128 takes around 2^126.tries. I know... because the two guys that invented the attack, has both been my teachers :p (and I wrote the wiki article on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biclique_attack :3 )
