But yes, the kernel exploit is now broken as well. Back to square one.
Hey, I have a question then.. Are most of the dev people trying to work on older firmware exploits?.. Or do most of them just start trying to find exploits in the newest firmware released?.. I know you've said before that it should be okay to update if you aren't a developer, but 1: I personally don't have any reason to update unless I can play pirated games on it, and 2: I'm always afraid it might turn in to a situation like the 3DS where it is half-hacked, meaning you can hack it if you have firmware 4.5.0- (Thankfully I have a 4.5.0 3DS)..

This is not the 3DS thread :P
And we cannot know for sure.

Only the devs know, and they are working on several things at the same time.
Most likely they are working on a way to execute code right now with the webkit.
Out of that I don't know about the old firmware, but most likely they will try to make it work on newer firmwares if possible.

I'M NOT TALKING about the 3DS as far as the question is concerned.. Re-read my post 5 more times please.. I was saying that I was worried that the wii-u (in the future) MIGHT end up in the same situation SIMILAR the 3DS, in which you can hack it, but only if you have an older firmware, get it?..
I will wait for some actual dev to respond instead of normal people telling me things like "Only the devs know".. Actually I was really asking NWPlayer123.. Did you notice that my post was in response to his (and not your's)?..

No need to make an ass out of yourself.

As for the answer to your question as of 5.2.0 the WebKit vuln that allowed userland ROP was patched. As of 5.3.0 a kernel vuln was patched.

WebKit vulns are a dime a dozen, so that will surely happen again in the future. As for kernel vuln I would have to go consult with my crystal ball.

TL;DR Don't update if you care about any of the progress that has been made so far.

Yes, we're on various older versions, I personally am on 5.1.2 and someone else is on 5.0.0, so we still have quite a bit of ground covered for testing.
We're also probably not going to be working on an exploit for 5.3.0 for quite a while (unless it just happens to work IE when we develop a new browser bug to get it working on 5.1.1 up).

But yeah, basically what Relys said.
TL;DR Don't update if you care about any of the progress that has been made so far.

EDIT: Also, last I heard, only one or two people are working on the kernel exploit "actively". Not going to name names.

So I just arrived home and found my sister with the GamePad in hand.
I asked her:
"Did the Wii U update?"
Her response:
"I don't know, I just saw a blue bar filling up"

I'm fucked :'D
Hope this is not such a fuck up down the road when Homebrew is possible.

Damn.... this is why we can't trust other people. Tell her to buy you a refurb. This is what worries me the most, uncertainty, Smash Bros coming out, porting the exploit over....it pisses me off. This better not be another PS3 like scene bullshit. I'm afraid someone will somehow force the console behind my back.

Buying the boys one for Christmas. I may also get a "console only" on eBay for $125 and just put it on a shelf. Should be able to get something for it in a couple of years if things go south.

Yeah let's hope it is not.
Either way I cannot know if I'm fuvked for sure until the exploit becomes public, perhaps by 2015.

Why did she use it without your permission? But yeah, I don't know, the uncertainty pisses me off, this means I can't play SSB4 till next year....bollocks, I say.

Top kek.

No matter how many people are working on it, a good amount of progress is being made anyways. shrug.

So we shouldn't give up hope?

If he was, do you really think he'd say so? :P The less we know about those involved, the better. We don't want another 3DS-like leak, do we?

While I feel it sounds like you're lecturing me, you have a point, somewhat. Even if there's no reasoning behind it. Edited original post.

Fair enough, just trying to make a point that there's some information that is probably better off not known, if you catch my drift ;) Anyways, it's hard to know for sure, on whether or not that I should update, but given the recent info, those who want to wait, should if we're to use this exploit. I'm on 5.2.0 right now, but what worries me is that Smash is coming out in 12 days, and it has 5.3.0 on the disc. Maybe I'll ask for the game on Christmas, and maybe by then, we'll have something. But for now, I'd be better off keeping my festering gob shut about this.

I'm in the same position. That argument I made about it being win-win didn't help my decision making to be honest. I'm not going to update until we can port over to 5.3 I think.
