I have already had my ps3 repaired twice now if I remember right, it's a super slim and atm I'm playing through the sly collection(locked to console) so I'm not too keen to get it replaced again and losing my currently playthrough status. So then what's the best ways to upgrade the cooling. I never hear the damned fans spin up at all(like the last one) the only way I know it's overheating is because the game's freezing.

So then with that said, what's the best options out there? I'd like to do something simple like changing the fan or something, I may do the thermal paste but I'm still unsure as to what to do next as this is driving me insane.

P.S. The ambient temp in here is ~50*F and it's laying down, with nothing around it at all so it's clearly the shoddy construction of the ps3 super slims apparently.

You should know that Sony designed PS3 cooling to be bare acceptable, not long term realiability.

Sony packs everything inside the system (PSU, motherboard, WiFi chip, optical drive, etc) and these things generate heat. On top of that there is blower fan + very little ventailation holes on the system.

That said, you sure it was overheated? Overheated PS3 will instantly shut down and sometime they have the message that system overheated couple seconds before it powers off. Freezing indicates that game have crashed.

it starts playing insanely slow, as in not full freezing, but it's going at like 2fps the last time this happened(with sly 1) it was because the ps3 was way too hot and then when I sent it in sony said it was overheating and was unable to be salvaged so I had to get a different console.

Edit: And I know that m$ft and sony both did the cooling to be just enough, microsoft actually did real cooling after the rrod scandal but it's still not much at all, in fact most of the sound form it is the PSU cooling itself. I know why sony did theirs internally as it maeks it look more "sleek" or whatever which I hate, the 360's psu's fan was way louder than the 360's fans ever but it was always cool which I like. I knew the ps3 had the psu inside of it and I was hoping it'd have two fans, apparently there's only one which is crazy.

And since the sly collection is console locked and sony claims tehy can't change that(even though they did with the ps+ cloud backup thing) if I send it in, I'm fucked and lose my save file which pisses me off insanely. Luckily last time I was barely into sly 1 as in no more than 2hrs.

I put an antec cooling pad that I have(it draws barely any power) and is metal on the top and that was able to cool it down enough for me to feel safe with it and then I shut it down.

I did something pretty simple......I bought some little rubber footies to put on my PS3 SS and it raises the console up about a quarter inch to allow slightly better airflow under the system. My house is 70 F all the time and have never had it overheat since I did that. I tend to have the system on ALL DAY on Sunday.

Intresting. My PS3 SS stands vertically on the official Sony Super Slim Stand. Is this maybe the best way to set up the console? I never had any heat issues.

I never noticed the SuperSlims had any "heat"-problems. Come on... it's the 3rd version of the console... Are only idiots working for Sony?

There really isn't much you can do in a Super Slim.

My suggestion is to set up a table fan aim at the PS3 and blow airs to it.

I wouldn't recommend this if the PS3 is insanely dusty. The dust will get trapped in the parts.

I know a way to increase fan speed but it requires CFW though. -_- I use it all the time to adjust the temperature. It's a homebrew called Fan Control Utility.

Only if you blow air from the rear (where hot air comes out) of the PS3.

Fan Control Utility can adjust fan speed. But you cannot install CFW on Super Slim, so not relevant on OP's case.

You got a good chance of buying a used one and asking the seller how often they used or even ask for a Pic of fw and telling them not to update
