Hacking 3DS New System Update 9.X.X

No wonder I'm getting black screens -.- Went from 4.4 to what I thought was 8.1, guess not.

Is there any way I can get to 8.1 now?

I heard you can reformat EmuNAND to get to 4.x then use a game to update to 8.1

I think the only 8.x update game is Smash

Well, I can't be certain about a new encryption being involved here, but it is most likely to be related to the big change the made to the OS, meaning that GW needs to adjust their patches for them to work with this new system version. The same happened when the 7.0 update appeared.

Earlier in the thread (PG 2) someone said you can update using a rom by holding up on the dpad when launching GW/Classic mode

Haha, just found that now.

It keeps hanging when I try to run Smash and get it to update, great -.-

Hold up while entering Gateway mode, select, Super Smash Bros, run, hang.

If you lag in 100% of matches, then you are the problem. If you only lag in some matches,the other person is problem. There is no mentality, that's just how it is. If you're playing with more then one other person, then good luck with that.

Are you playing dumb or haven't you figured out yet? he is saying Nintendo servers suck.
It's not just about Internet connection, is it so hard to get it?

You can update emuNand with retail cartridges using Gateway 2.0b1/b2 in classic mode. But I don't think it's possible with Gateway 2.1 and above. (Edit: It is possible.)

The roms however don't seem to work as well. Trying to update using Super Smash Bros results in the system hanging until restarted.

wait for GW to update or go buy the game and try the beta upgrade from the cartridge ... You won't be able to download the 1.0.2 patch so no online anyway.

I don't care about the online portion but based on Gateway's prior updating, I doubt it'll be ready any time soon.

I guess I'll just be heading out to buy the game then. It would be nice to know if there are ANY that can be used to update or if Gateway just released this feature without any testing.

I just want to confirm that updating emuNAND using rom also worked. I just updated my emuNAND to 8.1.0 using Super Smash Bros rom (same region of course). It didn't hang my system.
