we can play together using local wireless, but when we try to play online we get that error. We can both play online with random people or with my other friend who has the official game

Did you setup your router as I mentioned? This fixed it for me and another friend with GW so we can now play together

I'm going to be honest, that doesn't really make any sense to me. What IP should I be pointing my mac to? and should the DMZ point to the same IP? Also what's a ghcp lease pool.

Sorry for being a noob

I joined a friend's game that's using a public header on his, and it worked fine. Not sure what the issue could be.

just explain it here, maybe someone has the same problem and is looking for aswers.

He explained what needed to be done earlier in the thread but he was giving me instructions that are modem specific. Also there was about 2 pages of back and forth that would make me look like an idiot

As I stated in my original reply

"I have found that assigning the 3ds mac to point to an ip that is outside the dhcp lease pool then pointing the dmz to the ip outside the firewall fixes the issue"

Note that every router is different and some residential routers don't let you nest outside the dhcp pool. In that event pick an ip that is at the end of the lease so nothing else is effected by an open firewall port

I can't be in the same lobby as my friend while we are both using Gateway. I can connect to other people who have the full game (For glory and friends) I can also connect to other people's GWs in local wireless, it's just when were online. Even when there is someone with the real game in the lobby (as host and not)

We both have good headers as we can both play online with other people.

Here is the error (big picture)

Is anyone else having this problem? Does anyone have a solution?

Thanks.

I've sent you a PM ;)

Sounds like it might be a router problem handling the packets between both 3DS's and the Internet.

Just in case people reading this thread don't understand the DMZ concept, it's basically removing an IP address from the NAT layer of the router. If the error is caused by the NAT failing to properly route traffic between internal and external IPs, then making one IP a DMZ means that traffic gets routed directly to that IP, without the NAT (and associated rules and firewalls) getting involved.

It also means there's a hole in the routers firewalls that a hacker could exploit, but since it's not pointed at any computers then it's generally not much of an issue.

Yup; thanks I was going to go into details later but you're 100% correct

Also I have people put their 3ds either outside or at the end of the lease to prevent a device from getting a DMZ ip
