If smea did that, you'd see a shitstorm on GBATemp, with people QQing left, right and centre about how he is a sham/betrayed the hacking community/selling out to Gateway and what have you. Exactly like the last time he decided to postpone it due to the announcement of the *New* 3DS. I guarantee it.

I live in New Zealand and we share the same region coding as Australia. I can confirm that the 3DS is identical to the European release. SOMETIMES we get games and systems with AUS coding as opposed to EUR coding, but the only difference, as far as I know, is the included Club Nintendo codes which are region-locked. Yes, you can import a New 3DS and/or New 3DS XL from Australia and it'd work fine in Austria and Germany. Yes, you can change the console to any language. You would have to buy an AC adapter, though, as they are not included, just like with the 3DS XL in Japan.

Furthermore, as previously stated, handhelds to not conform to TV standards of PAL and NTSC, so that does not apply here. Most modern consoles, and all handhelds, have three main regions: America, Japan and Europe (including Australia/New Zealand). As I said before, sometimes the European ones are divided into Europe and Australia (EUR and AUS, respectively) regions, but are still compatible with each other.

Anyway, it's way cheaper to import games from the UK, here in New Zealand, but that means the codes aren't compatible, so I use both Club Nintendo Australia and Europe accounts. NZ Post offers a service where you can have a UK and a US address, so I technically have a legitimate address. Also, Club Nintendo Australia is even worse than Club Nintendo Europe.

I'm planning to do this too.
It would be about £50 cheaper then buying one here after postage, and I could still get a good trade in value on my 6 month old XL before the price drops due to it becoming "obsolete hardware".

Can anyone point out any potential flaws in the plan for importing one from AUS to UK, with compatibility etc? I want to make sure no one has missed anything as I know a lot of us intend to do this.

Also tried researching AUS game e-tailers that export internationally... but cannot find any.

Luckily I have a friend in AUS whom I trust and may be able to ship me one.

There aren't any. It will be identical to a UK system.

Just need to wait until something pops up about where to actually import from.

Often there are some promotions from Nintendo in which you get a free game if you register your console or games. For example I got a free game when I registreed my 3DS XL. If you import the 3DS from AUS you will not be allowed to use the Nintendo club code ...

Europe & Aussie both share the same format/region, i.e, PAL.

You can also check the Aussie boxes for it.

Yes it does. The DVDs are PAL (R4).

By the way, Nintendo for fuck sakes rename the "New 3DS" as the Super 3DS!

That's not what i meant, i meant it doesn't apply to the 3DS. Actually it doesn't apply to pretty much any console now.

DVDs are obviously a different story, but that isn't the topic at hand atm.

no, seriously, let's stay focused here, PAL/NTSC just don't apply to the 3DS, it's just called EU/NA/Jap (and I think, there is a Kor one, too, right?)
but when someone says PAL or NTSC, then we basically know, what he's talking about, so for pete's sake, don't make it a big deal every single time, when someone says PAL instead of EU, it can happen
