So I got metro redux on the ps4 a few days ago, the only game in quite a while that I was really keen to play on that system. Within an hour or so of playing my PS4 suddenly decided to switch itself off which is something that it has randomly done a few times in the past. I turned it back on and it went straight into safe mode and after rebuilding the database it booted up as normal and I was able to play for a bit more until it decided to switch off yet again. This time though it was stuck in a safe mode loop and no matter what I did it would return to safe mode, I had to physically remove the HDD and pop it back in to boot up as normal.

Even though it was working again it was obvious that the PS4 was on its way out and I wasn't going to wait for it to completely fail so I returned it to the store today and got a replacement. I exchanged my launch day Killzone bundle PS4 for a Last of Us bundled PS4 which actually worked out pretty sweet as I had no intention of ever playing killzone again. On top of everything I also received a £16 refund because TLoU bundle was cheaper than the killzone bundle so I really cant complain about being slightly inconvenienced.

Anyway upon getting the new PS4 home and booting it up and using it for a good few hours to download stuff and play Metro Redux I was struck at just how quiet the new system is compared to my old one, the old one from day one whirred and clicked all the time which I though was normal but the new PS4 is virtually silent. A member of irc from America also had his PS4 die and said it was more than likely a PSU issue and when I returned the PS4 I asked the guy serving me if they had many PS4 returns and he said that yeah they had quite a few.

So I am curious as to just how widespread this issue is and was wondering if the few tempers that own PS4's have had any similar issues with their consoles dying. Could this be a new RROD? The main things I am curious about are:

- Have you ever had your PS4 randomly switch off on you at any point? Regardless if it has failed completely or not.

- Has your PS4 ever booted into safemode at any point?

- Does your PS4 make noticeably loud whirring and clicking noises?

- Has your PS4 completely failed on you requiring a new unit?

- Is your PS4 from around its launch date if you have had any of these issues?

This thread is just to satisfy my curiosity about how widespread these issues are and I think people would be genuinely interested in the replies we get here so please leave any fanboyism at the door because that type of stuff will be deleted, thanks.

Haven't played mine that much, but its A-Ok.
It'll get some better stress testing when GTA V is out.

I didn't use it all that much at all, I completed a few games on it but my general use was only a few hours a week generally. Does your PS4 whirr an click a lot when its on or anything like that?

Started the weird constant eject for the Bluray drive, but that was fixed relatively easily. Not really worried for the device, since the EU region has 3 year guarantee on manufacturing defects.

Also it's a launch unit

I had the safe mode loop issue. That was like my 4thbroken ps4. I could not be arsed anymore and got myself a xbox one.
No fanboyism. Just purely disappointed and had enough of it.
read one of my status I posted a while ago about broken ps4.

Edit: all of the problems above! I have had one or the other in each of the replacement consoles I got.
Add a dead on arrival and HDMI port issue.

Wow four broken PS4s, that's crazy? Did you exchange your PS4 for a new one at the store you got it from or did you get a refurb through sony?

I haven't heard of widespread issues really since launch, and even then, those widespread issues weren't all that widespread. With over 10 million PS4s sold, the fail rate is very, very low and within acceptable bounds, with stuff like the bum HDMI, the most common failure on the launch models, seeming to not be an issue anymore. Inevitably, some people will still get a lemon. The manufacturing process isn't perfect, and not every piece of hardware that goes into the PS4 is going to be 100% working 100% of the time. To be certain though, ShawnTRod's issues were far outside the norm, almost akin to codezer0's seemingly astoundingly bad luck with all things Sony.

Yeah, I haven't really heard of this issue before either, nor have I heard of anyone having multiple PS4 consoles die on them unless they were purposefully fucking with them

I've got a launch day PS4, has hours and hours of play time under it's belt and I haven't had any kind of issues yet. No launch HDMI thing, no constant ejecting, nothing.

Any of you guys had the rubber wear away on the thumbsticks? I thought it was just trolling when I saw someone post it on GF a few months ago but it's happened to mine last week on the left stick.
I don't even use it that much yet either I remote play more than I use the pad.

I think there must be a bad batch of controllers out there, because I've got 2 from launch day that have both seen hundreds of hours of PC and PS4 games (like, 200 hours of Dark Souls ) that are still in near-mint condition.

I had my PS4 on launch and it started to have the same problem like yours where it would randomly turn off and get stuck on a boot loop until I unplugged the PS4 power cable. I checked every settings twice to make sure it wasn't anything I had set and reboot it back to factory settings 3 times but still had the problem. Had a horrible experience with Sony trying to get it fixed and sent in for repair as Gamestop told me to contact Sony since it was passed 30 days. Took me 3 months to receive a box to ship my system in for repair after confirming everything about my information over 20+ times and contacting them over 10+ times after waiting weeks for an invisible box. Anyhow They gave me a refurbish unit which works perfectly fine now but my Ps4 controller analog stick rubber started to rip slightly and I'm just a casual player. So Sony charged me $8 to have it replace ( not counting the box I had to provide myself) which is better then having to spend another $45-$50 but this time I brought analog covers for them. It was annoying knowing that The controller analog cover was Sony fault for a bad batch but charge the consumer for their mistakes >:(

Ok so I've had my white PS4 since the Destiny launch. It's ran perfectly fine so far, minus the fact that it is a Little noisy with its fans sometimes, but that might just be because f the placement I have it on.

That being said, I did have massive scare two nights ago where my PS4 booted into safe mode and I couldn't get it out until I reset the console memory. It's only happened once but it was strange nonetheless and I'm wary to make sure not to do anything that'll make it happen again.
