Google, yet again, has failed me.
I have a growing collection of FPS games.
Doom
Quake
Quake 2 (Which uses two flash carts (DS and GBA) for the RAM required to play it, so cool.)

and now I want to add Strife. It seems like a game that would easily play on a DS.
Anyone have any leads on where I can find a DS port for this game?

PS: I'm also looking for the following FPS games for the DS
The Elder Scrolls: Arena
Star Wars: Dark Forces
ZDoom
Doom 2

But for now I'm just asking about Strife.
All help is appreciated.

I will also be posting a thread with links and directions on how to get these games on your DS. It took me a while to get games like Quake and Quake 2 to work, so I'm sure a tutorial and direct links will be appreciated.

As all Doom Engine games, Strife comes in a .WAD form, so I assume any Doom-compatible engine on the DS could run it just fine - have you tried swapping .WAD's?

I had no idea it was in WAD form.
But that still leaves me with a problem.
Because before I actually tried to exchange the WAD for Doom. But it didn't work.
I tried renaming the new wad as the default wad, but to no avail.

So I guess my new question would be:
How do I change WADs for Doom DS?

I own STRIFE and would like this to be ported as well but the problem is the engine itself. Like Heretic/Hexen it can't run off the basic doom.exe because it has a LOT of separate and unique feature to it as an engine. Plus the wad structure themselves are a bit different (One wad for all the voice data, Another for the assets.)

A little browse tells me that Another World might have the answers you seek. ;)

from what i can recall, strife used a modified version of the doom engine. dsdoom is based on prboom, a traditional engine, and strife is not compatible with it. there was never a standalone strife port for the ds.

elhobbs did a port of quake 2 for the dsi that runs in dsi-mode. it does not require the extra ram. however, you'll need an older dsi that can run the ievo or a dsiwarehax exploited dsi in order to boot it. https://code.google.com/p/quake2dsi/downloads/list

prboom supports doom2, so just drop in the wad and it will work with dsdoom. the modified builds (1, 2, there are others) contain a wad selector, so you won't have to have them all named the same and then c/p them around your msd card. you can also use hbmenu to launch .argv files (IE: dsdoom.nds -iwad doom2.wad -file earth.wad -save earth), and that way select doom wads and pwads without having to rename them or build clunky iwads with ancient DOS tools. you should also give the doom wad "earth" a try. i highly recommend it for the things it accomplishes: http://gbatemp.net/threads/gbatemp-recommends-revival-046.333330/

you should be able to run almost any wad that works in doom1, 2, or final doom (tnt, plutonia) on dsdoom. converting is a pain, but if you want to go that route then just google how to turn a pwad into an iwad. wad merging may also yield some usable results. most of the old doom DOS programs will run in dosbox.
