In term of sold units.
Of course, Nintendo's games are great, I bought the MK8 pack in France just for it.
But... no 3rd part editor (Ubi/EA), etc.
Buying a Nintendo's Wii U just for Nintendo's games hurt my wallet :p even if the console is great of course !
But if I had money, I'd buy a PS4...
The Wii U is more used by my 7 old son than by me...

Wow, they fail on Wii U so they try to go on a new 3DS.
Of course, useless for current 3DS owner (except few people)...

I still laught at 2DS, let's hope this 3DS 2 (which name ? Same ? Great logic :/) will be hackable to be interesting.

Remembers me the 2nd PSP : PS Vita. Not a great future...
2DS had a sense. More economical hardware and more resistant to fallings. It was designed for kids and for people who could not afford a normal 3ds. Even this new design has some sense, it's a huge improvement (much like the dsi was for the ds line o much like the two SPs for the gba) and a perfect marketing move. It even costs a little less than a normal 3ds (if I remember well the prices). This new 3ds is like a Vita now. They just screwed in doing the announcement this late

Sure it can, because the CPU they used years ago is most likely about 1/5th of the cost today, so they have a bit of wiggle room to put in a faster processor. Not asking for a quad core 3GHz CPU, but something so I can play Triple Battles on pokemon with no lag, or even ffs Harvest Moon lags like a bitch for me.
I have many games on my 3DS that have framerate issue, and could benefit from a better CPU.

Pokemon's lag issues are not the hardware - Smash Bros (reportedly) runs fine w/ no frame drop. And games like Zelda ALBW are FULL 3D and never ever lag.

Pokemon's lag issues are completely the hardware (and software). You can optimize a game more and more, but there's a limit of how many polygons and effects can be on the screen before the 3DS takes a hit on performance. And Pokemon, with they're detailed as fuck, well, pokemons, it's no surprise the 3DS struggles to handle the battles. So to say the hardware has nothing to do with it is just plain ignorant.

Those are more of poor design on the developer's part. There's plenty of games like Code of Princess or Senran Kagura, which lag horribly. On the other hand, you have games like Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart, and Monster Hunter which run in full 3D without any lag.

In other words, the developer's just designed their games poorly for the 3DS.

Really? Consider the DSi that was released in 2008 and that was 4 years into the DS's life. This one is being announced 3 years after the original 3DS came out.

I think it's a case of "more of the same w/ just something new" than release dates.

Do the new models add USB charging support like the slim Vita did?

Also, why no new 2DS (non-clamshell) model? And why is the XL still ugly?

Yes, I agree the developers are also at fault. However, can the blame really be shifted all towards them?
Optimizing code is a very expensive process, and with the "profits" that most 3rd party make isn't enough to justify the time spent doing it. It's also the responsibility of the 3DS (in my opinion) to have the decent hardware specs to properly play a game, whether or not it's optimized with a ASM 3D engine.

I wasn't talking about the current duration of the 3ds era. I'm just saying that they could have announced it like 6-7 months before the release date rather than two months before

No, this is incorrect. Game Freak rushed the development of the game because they KNEW X & Y were gonna push a ton of consoles come Xmas time. Optimization takes a shitload of time to perfect (more than the development of a game per se). Pokemon is not even 3D in overworld and there's a reason - it would take more time and it would lag because of lack of optimization.

Project deadlines are more important than making a game "perfect", especially when you're considering Pokemon. Remember that this is a game that most kids don't care about 3D at all and will be playing this on a 2DS.

The cpu seems to be high enough to play videos in the 3DS browser in E-Shop quality and load mii verse pages twice as fast as previously. Just saying.

thats the downside of pokemon having yearly releases. Where have we seen stuff like this elsewhere?

I'd rather they just release Pokemon every 2 years and make a GREAT game than yearly and it being decent at best. But money speaks louder, so...

>Knock out the Vita
>Rule the handheld market with an iron fist
>Revise the 3DS again and tie new games to it, forcing fans to upgrade

All according to keikaku*!

*Keikaku means plan**

**Plan means "a detailed proposal for doing or achieving something"
