Hey guys.

I already have a gateway setup with emunand with my 3ds. If I were to swap over to MT-card, what do I need to do?

I know that GW saves are located on the 3ds sd card whereas for MT-card the saves are on the MT-card mSD card. So I just copy them over respectively and they'll work?

What about the emunand?

ROMs/saves are interchangeable. Emunand is not, you'll need to reformat the SD card/format Emunand and start over, after switching. If you plan on switching, often, you may want to set up another SD card

Emunand is interchangeable!
I'm a gateway user and my emunand was created when I used mtcard.
Search a little big and if you don't find anything you ask me.
Basically you need to create a image of you whole card and use a hex editor to rename a part and them write the image again in the SD card.

Interesting, didn't realize that. I switched today and ended up formatting and starting over. Whatever you do, make backups of everything. That way if something goes wrong, you can just restore it. I can use my backups to play with later.

So I can just copy over the saves without the need to rename?

Can I hex edit it from GW to MT and then back to GW?

i believe switching between MT and gateway could be a bit annoying...i think MT card works with a gateway emunand(not sure if it works the other way around...i know that sounds illogical but MT will accept the gateway one as MT copied the gateway FW, where as gateway doesn't recognize the MT card set up emunand as they only accept the it if it was set up by the GW software), so if you set up the emunand on gateway MT will use it just the same...basically set it up with the GW software and it should work fine for both cards

as for saves, this will be the most annoying, gateway stores its saves on the big SD card in the 3ds, and from what i have read, MT stores them on the micro SD card in the MT card,
also gateway names the saves using the games title ID and MT names the saves based on the rom name.....as you can imagine it would be a bit annoying switching between the 2 different setups

Instructions here:

Use Win32DiskImager, open the created Image with an HEX Editor, and change the name MT-CARDNAND to GATEWAYNAND.... after this, Rewrite the image to SD and it worksss!

So wait. Do I need to hex edit it or not?

As for the save file, I'll probably work up a batch script or something to rename it. Going to be a hassle the first time round but afterwards should be easy.

Does the MT-card work with eshop games and the recently dumped VC games? I know gba won't work but the rest?

MT-Card can read Gateway's NAND but Gateway can't read MT-Card's NAND.

It works with some eShop games and probably VC, but not with ROM injections.

I see. So if I decide to switch from originally GW emu to MT emu I don't have to do anything. But If I originally started out with MT emu I would have to hex edit.
Yes. At least after the answers in this thread (I havn't tested MT -> Gateway myself but you can use a GW EmuNAND with MT-Card without any changes).

Awesome. From your signature I see you have both cards right? What's your solution for transferring saves?
Yes, I have both cards.
I play different games on both cards/ usually use one for a period of time. First I used Gateway, then I used MT when it came out, after Gateway Omega I switched back to Gateway and I'll probably use my MT again when 2.0 comes out. But I will play different games or only rename the saves for the most important games.

In the HEX Edit you will see in the begining MT-CARD something and you should replace with GATEWAY3DS. Please make a .img based on MT-Card emunand and another based on Gateway Emunand to make sure how exactly you should edit MT-Card emunand. I did and everything works perfectly!

here are some signatures stored on Sector 0 of your SD card, used by the different flashcards EmuNAND:
(It's only information I gathered by reading user's post, maybe there are mistakes)

Gateway Card : GATEWAYNAND
R4i gold 3D deluxe before 3.1 : R4IGOLDNAND
R4i gold 3D deluxe since 3.1 : 3DSCARDNAND (automatically renamed if R4IGOLDNAND is found)
MT-Card : MT-CARDNAND

Edit:
According to post below
All cards are (should be) compatible with GATEWAYNAND signature.

pretty sure all work with GW nand as the clones all just diabled the check so you could have it named as anything you want (while gateway has it still in place so gateway only works with emunand setup on gateway but not the others)
