I apologize if I come off as rude. Do you mean unless both of those options are disabled? I can't imagine the system only auto-updating when it is explicitly told not to. When the console is off it will remain inactive, but when it is moved to standby it will install downloaded updates while powered down as of firmware 5.0.0.

So by disabling standby mode via settings, we will get the update prompt when booting the console like the past firmwares? I'm aware it disables the quick boot menu but I'm unsure of it's relation to the auto-installation of updates.

You're not being rude, no worries. Standby mode is what allows the console to update while it's off or in standby, disable it if you wish to avoid that route. Standby has to be on if you wish to use the quick menu, I don't know why it has to be on for the quick menu to work. Blocking the Nintendo update server by blacklisting the address is another way to do it.

Oh awesome. Thanks for the explanation.

Goodbye quick menu ~

Boy am I happy that I stayed on 4.1 !
I knew theres something wrong with the new updates. :D

its already confirmed, that there are other exploits for 5.0, ths only got leaked, since it was already fixed anyway and now is only useful to people on older system softwares

What I cant understand????, why wait around for some exploit to arrive just possibly for homebrew anyway. Break it down, a WiiKeyU costs £79.99p + P&P in the UK, you would spend £45 - £50 GBP on 1 game so surely it makes sense to try and invest in a WiiKeyU! If peeps on here have got WiiU's anyway then they must of spent mega money buying it in the first place so surely an extra £79.99p is not going to break the bank, if you went out and bought a WiiU in the first place @£300 odd pounds on a Premium package, so an excuse cant be, I'm skint!

Yes there are other exploits for 5+ however, I fear that Itll be like NDS all over again :)

I see Reecey went full retard again....

Just block the WiiU's MAC address in your router (Not from the network, just the internet). You can still make use of this particular exploit as it is hosted locally.

I've redirected the next ones to the 127.0.0.1 in my router's DNS:
nus.cdn.c.shop.nintendowifi.net
nus.c.shop.nintendowifi.net
nus.cdn.wup.shop.nintendo.net
nus.wup.shop.nintendo.net

The first two are for 3DS & the last two are for Wii U. I hope it's enough to block unnecessary updates on both of them.

Ok thank you for the answer my I do not know how one make?

Write your program then use the scripts to compile the htmls, then host them and use your Wii U to access them.
Maybe.

Since not everyone is interested in piracy/loading ISOs off of a drive. The WiiKey U among others costs quite a few $$ at the moment and is so far capable of using only ISOs. The £80+shipping you posted is quite a bit more than I've paid for almost my whole WiiU game library (not counting the MK8 LE bundle, since it was a pre-order). Sure you'll be able to play the isos with the £80, but nothing else so far. If the exploit mentioned here was capable of creating a way of running homebrew, it'd lead to much better things than what WiiKey U can offer.

ps. A WiiU costs nowhere near £300. I bought mine closer to less than £200 (LE Zelda). I could have gotten it cheaper, but figured I could just go for it.

problem with that is then, that you cant use the web browser then, I use it on a daily basis, so I just blocked the ninty url and I can keep using the browser and still am on 4.0.2

so the exploit crashes the wii u on firmware 5.0 ,

basically for 99% people out there this leak means absolutely nothing, they should not have leaked it, let the devs continue working on it.

interesting news but sadly the exploits is not finished :( buy hey maybe a couple weeks we will see a complete exploits or maybe not :D

No matter what Nintendo does now, we have a public working grounds. We can now figure out how the system works in more detail. Which is far better than what we had before.

Not like it matters, most people here only care about piracy, and what little programmers there are, either aren't interested, or aren't good enough. The few that are left from that, well I certainly hope they're ready and willing because the next step is to find a kernel exploit, in this unknown operating system that Nintendo foolishly decided to write themselves. And of course since Nintendo doesn't want anyone to know, we have to reverse engineer the ENTIRE operating system. And that's hellishly hard, compared to finding a browser exploit, for an open source browser.

I here you!!!. I bought mine when it first came out though on Pre-order from Game, ZombiU Premium £320.00, I was hyped up like Pokemon 3DS incoming, what a tit I was!!!, but never mind you learn!. I thought they still fetched around £300 now I was so wrong when I Googled just!.I hope maybe the WiiKeyU also may lead to Homebrew cause the original WiiKey led to some sort of Homebrew way taking off, I think?, I maybe wrong. You have to remember Qtis here in the UK we get ripped off for everything, even for a cheese burger at Mcdonalds so we have to pay £45 - 50 per game in the high street!. Its a bummer I know but even on sites like Amazon.co.uk you don't get much of a discount doing it that way.

No not true, the browser exploit still can work with firmware 5.0.
