SimpleSplit3DS is a tool for splitting 4GB and 8GB .3ds or .3dz files into .3d# files so you can transfer them to a FAT32 formatted microSD card. It can also join .3d# files back into their original file. It runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Not right now but maybe in the future [source].

Thanks for the link, great topic and nice app. but I doubt the 3DS could even warrant an 8GB game I mean I cannot see something like Titanfall on the 3DS arriving anytime soon!! Unless of course they went the Resident Evil Revelations graphics style way and made it bigger but as far as graphics are concerned I doubt the 3DS is capable of an 8GB size. I don't want to put a damper on the new 8GB thing but I wouldn't want to many of them being released in the future else I would be buying 64GB Micro-Sd cards like they were going out of fashion!!!

Great release, thank you! So let me just ask. Why not simply format the MicroSD card to exFAT format and put the whole rom on there, rather than splitting?
Well for me at least I use the same microSD card for my Gateway and for my R4i Gold. I swap it out depending on which cart I'm using. The R4i Gold doesn't support exFAT so I have to keep my microSD card formatted as FAT32 if I want to use it with both carts.

My guess is for lazy and/or stubborn people.

Wouldn't that be the opposite of being lazy though? ;)

And I gotcha! That makes sense! Excellent release!

I sure hope not, Titanfall was a bad idea to begin with. That being said, there were a good chunk of games for ps2 that used dual layer discs, so that's right in line with those.....it means they're not really limited if for example, they opt to use a bunch of fmv in a game.

I could imagine, that Smash Bros 4 could be 8 GB if untrimmed, 5 or 6 if trimmed, seeing that Brawl was dual-layer-dvd and that the amount of content pretty much remained the same.

Then again Brawl had alot of prerendered cutscenes that are yet to be confirmed or unconfirmed on 3ds and would only be used for character-introductions, also the textures are a lot smaller so i´m not about sure if that would make it smaller then 4GB or not.
