I meant like going to the menu in pokemon and selecting "save" rather than going through a specific Gateway process.

you always have to use the normal in game method of saving, thats for all games, just that the exiting of the game makes sure the save is then transferred to the SD card, with nand saving games the save is stored inside the rom so as soon as it saves in game its saved, no transfer process required

I just bought a gateway but I also just heard the new firmware can't be used for emunand.... So does that means even if I receive gateway I can't play any Roms higher than 4.5 since I can't make a current certain emunand???

I can only update emunand via net right? Heard can't do carry update??? I'm really confused with emunand

E-shop and settings won't work, but the latest 7.2.0 update will run just fine for playing "back ups"

If settings won't work.. Won't that affect gateway? So still update emunsnd with best method via gw3d mode and doing online uodate? And don't need to quote on backup cause that is what I got it for beleive it or not. Got too many carts. Just want to make it convenient especially I jump between games (and other consoles) alot

No, because the sysnand settings will work fine, it's only once you're inside of gateway mode already that settings won't work, and honestly the only thing I've even used settings for is setting up wifi.

In theory though, if your wifi is already set up before you create the emunand, the config should stick when you update the emunand. So truthfully, I personally am only affected by the lack of e-shop, because I buy my games legit.

How do I back-up savefiles from my GateWay somewhere on my PC?

I tried updating to 2.2 yesterday but failed because of a faulty tutorial (or just an unclear one with missing steps), so I ended up going back to the old 2.0 version without multi-rom support. I saved all the files from my old blue Micro SD, but unless the save can be recovered by re-installing the game and using the old blue card files, I don't see how I could've backed up the save somewhere since I can't open the red cards micro SD without formatting it. Any idea how I can back up my savefile on my PC for the game I've installed on it now so I won't lose hundreds of hours of progress again?

Hello again.

What are the language options in Gateway emunand? Just got my US 3ds xl 4.2, I would like to change to Japanese language. I will be buying Gateway next week after they stock. Is that possible in Gateway?

English, french, spanish, and portugese. Though games that are in japanese will show japanese properly, or so I hear.

Are there any downsides to using 4.1 compared to 4.5 firmware for the Gateway?
Pretty new to the Gateway and want to make sure there's no performance problem on my end.

For reference, I have a Ver. 4.1.0-8U 3DS; it's too much of a hassle for me to get a cartridge solely to update the firmware.
Thanks.

I seem to recall something or other is more unreliable on 4.1 than any of the other firmwares, but what exactly was unreliable about it I don't recall.

From what I understand, you can save Pokemon, Animal Cross "rom" on Gateway 3DS's current version long as you stay in Gateway mode. Once you revert and play on none gateway mod, it'll delete / wipe the save. In other words, it will save fine, you just can't boot it up on any other mode with the current Gateway without doing anything special, even dont need to use emunand. Please correct me if I am wrong because I am still confused here and tehre with Gateway.

So if I delete a rom from my red gateway microsd, and copy it back after a time, will it work with the untouched saves in my 3ds SD?

Hello, I'd like to ask two clarifications from the 3DS Hacking Faqs:

I want to remove all exploits on my system!
  1. Run a DS game or a DS mode flashcart.
  2. Shutdown your 3DS.
  3. Delete the Launcher.dat from your SD card
  4. Delete the install.nds from your DS flashcard's MicroSD.
Does this process remove every trace of a previous exploit? I ask this because I'm moving from a r4i to a Gateway, and I'd like to start from scratch without a reset to factory settings or other unnecessary/dangerous procedures.

The flashcarts are spoofing the required System version and prevent the prompt asking to update your console if you play from ROMs.
I'm willing to try using a dump of Bravely Default to go online to use the street pass function (me like some villagers), and doing so avoiding using emunand. I was wondering if the spoofing will still work even if I go online with a dump. I know there's no chance the 3DS will update automatically, but I'd prefer not to be nagged by the system update alert constantly (and maybe avoid updating by mistake). I should add my 3DS never went online.
Thank you :)

Hi guys, pretty simple question here but I just want to be 100% sure I'm getting the right card for my purpose.

I have a DS Lite (not DSi) and 3DS XL and would like to buy a card that I can use in both for homebrew/emulation/DS roms. Basically a replacement for my old CycloDS card that works fine in my DS Lite, but doesn't work with the 3DS.

Looking at this thread: http://gbatemp.net/threads/which-r4-should-i-buy.356885/

The R4i Gold seems to be what I want:

Will this work on both my DS Lite and 3DS XL for everything that my old CycloDS did - DS roms, emulation, homebrew? I'm not looking for a card to play 3DS roms, maybe sometime in the future I like to see how things pan out.

Thanks :)

Yeah it will.

if you want the next step up in cards the DStwo has extra features that arent compatible with other NDS flashcards such as much better gba emulation and snes emulation, but the price is higher, so either the R4 you linked or the DStwo depending on your budget
