Brought a 3DS XL this morning from a guy trying to sell stuff to Cash Converters, it's all stripped down, a visable broken hinge, but he said it works fine apart from that and he stripped it down but couldnt get a shell to fix it. i only paid £10 for it though so hopefully not to much if it don't work.

Does anyone know of a guide to get a 3DS XL back together, dismantle guide thingy,

I've just brought a housing shell off ebay for it for £20 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-NINTE...arts_Tools&hash=item258d45b8fb#ht_1579wt_1020

but the picture looks more like a clear protective housing than a whole case but hopefully it will be the right part,

Has anyone else done a replacement ? is it hard ?

Nope. Its a case. You did not buy a housing shell. You got ripped off.

Fixing the 3DSXL is not difficult. Its delicate so you have to be extremely patient in replacing stuff.

Oh one last thing. Did I mention how delicate the internal parts are? Because they are. Once you source out the parts, be extremely patient and you're golden.

Heres the 3DS XL

I've got 2 problems now, 1 - the hinge is superflued together, i've found hinge ebay.

and 2 the casing didn't come with any trim bits that go where the power and wifi lights are, mine have super glue on them. i've looked all through ebay and you can't buy them on their own.

On a plus point, i've powered it up and both screens work.

One part that i find silly is the home, start, select buttons, they are stiff on the housing so i'm not sure if they will work or not.

PS all those sticky labels on the blue battery cover seem to have been put there to cover up the Nintendo writing underneath it.

that's a good deal for £20, funny that the guy above said you got ripped off and said it was a case when he had no idea what he was talking about.

superglued together? very strange...
i've never opened up a xl, but some normal 3ds consoles to fix them, and the top screen area/ribbon cables through the hinge were always the worst part.

You do realise that based on the ebay listing and the picture, it's actually describing a clear case instead of the housing right? Sure it's easy to be right after the item arrives.

Either way I'm glad OP got a real actual housing.

Yeah the bit on the hinge part was snapped off, i think it had been superglued but spilt onto the other parts,
He was right about the housing, the picture looked like a clear cover and the description said clear on it, probably the reason they''ve not sold many as the cheapest blue ones i seen on it from UK were £30 something,

Vengenceonu there is a guide here: http://uk.ign.com/wikis/nintendo-3ds/3DS_XL_Shell_Swapping
It's pretty useful,

If you've not got broken hinges and the inside is in good condition you can just swap the bottom blue cover and the tope blue cover,

Finally the other part I was waiting for arrived yesterday, the plastic bit that goes inside the with the hinge, had to get it from USA,

All fitted and put back together, the console works fine, 3ds works, everything works,

Touch screen a bit scratches - i'm considering taking it back apart and replacing it.

Only problem I have found is the wifi switch, I have to push it firmly or it won't work.

Does anyone know where I can get a new switch? looked on ebay and all they have is volume switches

Edit that, doesn't matter about the wifi switch, just realised it would need soldering, (the volume one is a ribbon which is the one I thought was on the right hand side but when you turn the console over it's on the left ooops)

Might aswell keep the scratched touch screen on it.
