Hi,

I dumped a retail copy of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds to the SD card of my Gateway 3DS. The dump went through successfully, but when I pop the cartridge back into a 7.x.x 3DS the save file is no longer there. Is this save gone now? Neither the dumped game in gateway mode, the cartridge in classic mode, nor the cartridge in the 7.x.x 3DS has the save.

Is it gone then? I searched the topics here and couldn't find anything stating games saves are lost when dumping. If that's the case I don't mind, but I'd just like to know for sure.

Did you check that the original cartridge had the data? I'm not sure the cartridge version of ALBW stores the data on the NAND or SD Card.

Okay, after digging around I found this :

- KeyY save: This one affects Retail Cartridges only. Games using the new KeyY method for encrypting save data will still use the old key if played through EmuNAND Classic because they are running under 4.1.0-4.5.0. Existing cartridge's save data created when playing on a RealNAND 6.1.0+ will be reset and lost if played on EmuNAND Classic. The problem is present the other way too, playing on EmuNAND first will reset the save data if you play the game on RealNAND later. If you start on EmuNAND, and loose the ability to launch EmuNAND (or later the flashcart teams find a way to use the new KeyY while in EmuNAND), you will loose your progress.
When I finished dumping the cartridge, I went into classic mode and ran it there before running it in the 7.x.x non-gateway 3DS. I guess my save file is gone then.
Any chance someone has a save file just after getting the master sword? For use with a common rom of the game.

Did you happen to run diagnostics with the cart in?
That will wipe the save, also if you the game in classic mode the whole key y issue will detect the save as corrupt and wipe it

Just dumping the game should be fine as long as you avoid doing either of those stepa

Thank you all for the help guys. I didn't run diagnostics, but I did start the cartridge in classic mode. From that excerpt above, it seems that's why the save was wiped, as ZLBW uses KeyY saves.

Sorry for my poor English. Are you meaning GW Dumping corrupts your Zelda cart's original save?

No, not the dump. It's because he also ran the cart using GW Classic mode.
That's reasonable. I have never heard GW Dumping did anything harmful before. But I did hear GW Classic mode corrupts CARD2 cart (especially Pokemon XY) 's original saves.
