you trimmed a rom theres your problem trying playing with a untrimmed rom and see if you get same results
I only trimmed the dummy data, leaving the update partition intact. Therefore, it being trimmed shouldn't be the issue, as CARD2 games (PKMN XY/ACNL) are the only ones that have had any issue (to my limited knowledge as there isn't much readily available) specifically linked to being trimmed.
I'll give it a try, but I feel like it will be hard to tell if it is the root of the problem as the crashes themselves are random in occurrence. The only commonality each of the crashes had is that they all occurred during the loading screen. All other variables (party members, point in story, location, etc.) were different each time the game crashed.
Given the crashes that another
recent title is having, which are occurring with both trimmed and untrimmed roms, I'm a little hesitant to immediately write this one off as a trimming issue. I'd like a more concrete solution than one that comes with the assumption that it's fixed until it breaks again. For all we know, these problems could lie within the Gateway itself, and these two games are the first signs on that path of discovery.
We all know that not every game is guaranteed to work 100% with GW on day one. It's only a matter of time before we start seeing roms needing to use the 7.x save encryption that's currently preventing Pokebank and Youtube from working on emunand. Now that CARD2 games can be run as well, it's more likely that we'll start to see some AP code inserted into games instead of the more costly option of Ninty developing yet another media type. I highly doubt that they'll pull the trigger on a CARD3 format, unless it was absolutely necessary for a AAA franchise like Pokemon, Mario, or Zelda. Games would have to start pushing the 4 GB file size on a consistent basis to make it worthwhile for Ninty to develop a new media type. Since there's only been 4 titles to leave Japan using that size cartridge (RE:R, MGS3D, DKCR, Bravely Default), it doesn't seem it'll happen any time soon.
Not to mention that the size difference between trimmed and untrimmed is almost 800MB. For that amount of space, I can fit about 3-4 shovelware titles that can be played sporadically in quick one-off sessions.
Semi-off-topic: Conception II can be added to the list of games that can access its DLC. I haven't tested out the Blindmating yet, so I have no idea if that functionality works.
EDIT: I think I found the cause of the crashes: file fragmentation. When I had the trimmed rom and nothing else on the microsd, no crashes were had. The moral of the story is to that the more often you move files around on the microsd, the more often you should format and recopy everything.
