Hello GBATempers,

I was trying to setup wifi on my 3DS at my university (they say the network doesn't support the 3DS but I wanted to check). I was already on my real nand and just wanted to check if it works( it connects but you can't eshop, play games, or browse the internet but you can download. Weird I know). So my 3DS on 4.5 ended up downloading a System Update and now I get that annoying message to update the firmware on my real nand. So this is why I ask is there anyway to format the real nand without deleting my emunand? My goal is to get rid of the system update that was downloaded.

Yes it's possible...the emunand on the sd card is separate from the real nand and is not touched by the real nand format.

sure they didn't mean not compatible with the normal DS....as that only allows WEP or open security settings....the 3ds allows pretty much all types of security setting.....unless they mean it has one of the log in pages before you can use it....in which case just going to that page in the browser and logging in before trying to access the internet should let it work

EDIT:- sorry just read your post properly they must have ports blocked....but normal browsing should work....that would be the standard port 80

A new nand encryption is generated upon reformatting, which would render any duplicated nand useless.

i reformatted the other day, and my emunand works fine, not sure if it creates a new setup for where your eshop content etc is stored, but it will still "work"

I think you're right, it just makes the sd card data useless not the emunand. lol

I've had to do this a couple of times when the kids inadvertently downloaded an update.

Go to System Settings, Other Settings, Format System Menu.

Just don't update your system NAND beyond 4.5 or you will not be able to use EmuNAND anymore. I suggest you delete the update from the SD card, which I believe is in the EXTDATA folder.

Yeah they don't even have the 3DS listed just the normal DS. Yeah usually once I connect on a device it brings up that login page or I have to go to the browser. I tried going to the browser on my 3DS but nothing ever loaded...matter of fact I'll make another thread on that (unless I find one beforehand).

But to the topic at hand, thanks everyone. I was able to format the sysNAND and my emuNAND stayed intact.:yaysp:

have a look what page you are redirect to on a pc or whatever, then type the URL into your 3ds, it could be that the automatic redirection doesn't work, if you go directly to the login page(you can bookmark it for easy access)

once your logged in the internet should work fine
