Hacking R4 Curiosity

Hi guys. I don't know if I've posted before or not, but I know I've used the site a lot.

I have an DS Lite that I had boxed away for some time (moved houses and will be moving again, didn't unbox a lot of stuff) and I recently dug it it out. After I had success modding my Wii, I wondered if there was anything I could do with the DS, and found out all about the R4 Card and various other things, and I bought one. From a useless seller it turns out. So I bought another from a website affiliated with this one (nds-card.com I think?) and that showed up a few days later and has since worked perfectly.

The card that I ordered from the first website eventually showed up, although it was the wrong card and I believe it is fake (although this doesn't stop them from working if I'm not mistaken?). Anyway, it claims to be compatible with the DS Lite, I just can't get it to work or do anything. I've tried various firmwares and they don't do anything. I turn on the DS which turns on like normal and tells me there's a "Spongebob Atlantis Squarepants" game in it. If I click that, it just says "Loading..." and then doesn't do anything.

Obviously I have my card that works fine, but I was wondering if anyone knew how to get this one up and running? Be nice to have a spare if it can be used at all.

I have a 4GB Micro SD card of my own, but I also have a 2GB one I can use if that would help matters.

There are no official/ real R4is. You have one which will get support for about a year (from what we can tell now). It's sure not the best choice, but not the badest either.

You mainly speak english, right?
1. Download this or select your language from here if you speak another language.
2. Extract the folders and files in the archive into the root of your MicroSD card (moonmemo, moonshl2, R4iMenu and R4.dat).
3. Try to start it.

I heared that you have to copy all files seperately to your MicroSD card. You can try that if the guide above doesn't work. Could you please make a picture of the error message if it still doesn't work?

Yeah, English. I downloaded that file and did what you said, but it still gave the same result :/

It just sits at that Loading screen, it doesn't do anything else.

the Loading either means the Kernel is corrupted on the SD or it cant find the MicroSD
when placing the Kernel files on the MicroSD you must extract the Desktop first and then copy to the MicroSD, otherwise the Kernel majority of the times becomes corrupted and leads to this

That's what I do, it what I've done with my R4 card too (The original type model for DS/DSL), so perhaps I should try the 2GB card.

EDIT: Which didn't help. Gave the same result.

Maybe you can blow into the slot of the R4i and clean the contacts of the MicroSD. It could be a connection issue.

Which MicroSD have you used? Try to formate it in FAT or FAT32.

4GB Kingston, 4GB Sandisk and 2GB seemingly unbranded one which works fine on most other things. All in FAT32

Maybe someone else owning a R4i Dual Core can say something to this? I havn't gotten mine yet.

I'm not too fussed ultimately, it wasn't the card I ordered in the first place, I was just dumb enough to use a website without checking it out first. Just wondered if there was anything worth doing with it on my DS Lite, so. Thanks for all your help so far anyway

Currently I think that there's a problem with the internal card reader of your flashcard anyways. Maybe you can ask the shop to get a new one

Now I got my own one and it works without any problems. You only have to make sure that the R4.dat and the folders are at the right place.
