Did a search but came up with nothing relevant.

As the title says, the battery in my psv drains when having it completely off and not in standby.
Anyone with the same problem, is there a solution?

Unfortunately i haven't kept track of the amount of days it takes to discharge.
I charged it overnight now after I started the thread, I'll keep it off and see how long it takes.

I know that the psp batteries do the same, but they hold a charge for a longer period.
Longer then my vita at least.

Thanks for the replies.

Its probably just low quality batteries. Like you said, the PSP I have (albeit old) couldnt hold a charge to save tis life (heh battery life, punny). I guess just make sure its charged when you want to use it?

I was hoping for this thread do dissappear somewhere between the pages and be forgotten.
It seems i must have forgotten to acctually shut it off the last couple of times.
Almost a month later the battery is still full.

Assuming it's a lithium chemistry battery, self discharge is an indication of a imminent failure either catastrophic like battery fire or the more mundane failure where it never charges or holds a charge. Lithium batteries aren't known for having a high self-discharge problem.

But it seems after a month you're battery still works, so perhaps you had unrelated problem. :P

As for risk of overcharging...don't worry about that. Mainstream consoles like the PSP/Vita and cellphones have overcharge protection in their charging circuits, so it's not really something you need to worry about. If the console has a charging indicator light and it goes off on it's own when done charging, then it's not charging anymore and it won't overcharge the battery no matter how long you leave the power cable connected. Only cheap knockoff electronics and older tech might have problems with that.

Charging batteries overnight is risky because overcharging them decreases the battery life.
You can't overcharge a smart battery - the internal circuit shuts off the charging process the moment the battery reaches its full capacity and only re-enables it after a substantial drop.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

Just give it a try, but honestly if you have a 3DS you can play DS games without a card just off the internal SD card
