Hello,

I'm trying to backup my NAND following this tutorial http://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-p...y-3ds-the-complete-guide.360176/#post-4880709

I'm using a 3DS on 4.1.0-8E. I just installed Gateway as per the first step, copied the Launcher.dat for Gateway 1.2, reinserted the 32 GB SD card (which I just formatted to FAT32 prior to following the guide) into the blue gateway card but when I hold L and press Nintendo DS Profile it hangs then takes me back to the main menu, saying "An error has occured forcing the software to close. The system will now restart (Unsaved data may be lost)".

Please help!

Thanks

Don't use 4.1 with Gateway. I suggest updating to 4.2-4.5 using a ROM and Gateway's 1.0 firmware, then trying to backup your nand.

It's because you're using 1.2  You will need 2.0b1 or 2.0b2 to get in GW GUI and backup NAND

Ah I see, to update from 1.2 to 2.0b1 do I just have to copy the newer files onto the SD then rerun the Gateway installer? Also is it worthwhile backing up the NAND if I am only going to be using Gateway 1.2?

Ok, is it safe to run a ROM to update the system without having a NAND backup?

Yes, as long as it updates your system to 4.2-4.5 (Nothing over that, or you won't be able to use your Gateway anymore).

4.1 is incredibly buggy in 2.0B1 and up, I still recommend updating your system past 4.1 before using it.

No, that file needs to go onto your big sd card in the 3ds. It can be very confusing to set up for the first time

I see! That's my fault for not reading the guide correctly, thanks for pointing that out. I think I've updated Gateway to 2.01b (I just copied the 2.01b files onto the micro SD card then ran the Gateway installation progress). I'll put the launcher.dat file onto the SD then try again. If I manage to backup the NAND that way then I'll repeat the process using the 1.2 Gateway files to get me back to 1.2, right?

No problem, it's easily done, so much different from a normal flash cart.
I'm not really up on emunand have never needed it so never used it but I'm sure someone else can help with that, good luck :)

Is a Quick Format ok when it comes to the next step (adding ROMS to the micro SD card)? Full Format took a couple of hours earlier.

I use quick format, if you have any problems loading the games it would be the first thing to check though ie do a full format to rule it out.

Nah I'm connecting it directly. I'm about to try loading a game onto the micro SD now. Should the regular SD be left in the console or taken out?

no need to format the micro sd in the redcart at all, as games are written to the bare disks without using filesystems. (kinda like ignoring the lines when writing on a sheet of paper)

First time I've heard that 4.1 is buggy.

Anyway, a few things to remember.

1. Once you install the Gateway exploit on the blue card, you don't need to ever do it again unless you play a DS games.
2. To upgrade/downgrade, just replace the launcher.dat on the full size SD card.
3. To switch roms / place a new rom, just use win32diskimager to "burn" the rom to the microsd. You don't need to format the card or anything, win32diskimager will take care of everything.

That's basically it. I recommend staying on 2.0b1 if you want to play games such as Zelda. If you're not interested in newer games 1.2 works fine and is less buggy (though I haven't run into problems on 2.0b1)

The regular sd stays in the console only needs taking out for new launcher or to backup your saves (as all saves are stored on regular sd)

Always make a NAND backup and keep it somewhere safe. Always.
