Let's face it, current eighth generation consoles (i.e. PS4, XB1, Wii U) all have mediocre libraries. Which is understandable since it's been only a year for the Wii U since launch and mere months for the other two. That said, Wii U has more games available due to the fact it released with a 1 year headstart.
Let's also not forget backwards compatibility, which is not available for either PS4 or XB1. So if you never had the chance to play Wii games, the Wii U has you covered. A nice bonus if you ask me. Then there's games that are multiplatform, mbut have better features in the Wii U versions. Even Need for Speed: Most Wanted from EA is better on a Wii U than other consoles, read any review. (Which is funny considering EA has dropped support for the Wii U.)
Finally, if you lime Nintendo and Ubisoft, then Wii U is the top choice for you. From Rayman Legends to Just Dance 2014, Ubisoft games just have that extra polish to them that make the Wii U versions stand out from the rest. Can't wait to see what Watch_Dogs will be like on the Wii U. So, you don't necessarily have to play Nintendo games, but they are arguably some of the best games in the entire industry. Nintendo has been making excellent games in the past few years, even Super Mario 3D World is topping review scores and charts despite being the "same old Mario over and over again". Add to the fact that this year will see the release of some must-have exclusives like Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros. 4, and possibly X and Bayonetta 2. I'm sure they're all going to be system sellers and chart hits. But if you don't like those games, that's fine. That's why there's choice. (Especially if you are into EA games, in which case the Wii U is the worst choice possible.)
To be fair for one year out of the gates it has a dismal library. Right now I think buying any "next gen" console is a terrible decision. There's reports popping up constantly of issues with all of them. XB1's are leaking, PS4's are deleting your saves, Wii U's are terrible.
Also are we really considering Just Dance 2013 a killer app? No offense but the people who enjoy Just Dance literally just want to dance. I don't think anyone likes the game THAT much to upgrade from a Wii to a Wii U. Also why would you buy a Wii U for Rayman Legends? The Murphy levels are terrible and you can just get a Vita and the game with all the same content for less. Plus you get a much better console with it. Same with Watch_Dogs, why choose a Wii U over a Xbox 360 or a PS3? Hell even a PS4 or XB1 which look much more promising?
Mario ALWAYS tops review scores but I thought we'd learn by now that games journalism is shit. It's charting reviews but certainly not sales charts.
Buy a 3DS, Smash Bros. 3DS, and Mario Kart 7 and save yourself the trouble of buying a bad console.
People actually think X will be a "killer app" and that it'll be released this year and will be localized? As for Bayonetta 2, sure it'll be cool but it's not worth getting the console over. Do yourselves a favor and just buy Metal Gear Rising instead.
You're just hard pressed to find a reason to choose a Wii U over a current gen console and at least its competition has a promising future. Right now my suggestion for everyone is to invest in handhelds. Get a 3DS and a Vita. They'll be getting good games this year as always, they're cheaper in price of console and price of games than home consoles, and they are much more varied in general.
