I have no idea how to make it work... There are tutorials for doing this on DS Lite, but not DSi... so I'm stuck. To make matters worse I have never soldered anything in my life.

That said, I was looking at a pic of the DSi motherboard, and noticed points labelled X-, X+, Y-, Y+

Maybe if I solder something to those, it will work? Is there a way of testing this? (That's another problem btw.. I have no idea how these things are tested... wouldn't you have to reassemble the handheld before you can power it on?)

p.s. I can try to take a pic of my DSi in its current state if anyone wants me to. I will use my 3DS to take a picture, lol.

edit: I got the system to work... for 10 seconds only, but at least now I know what to do! Youtube user named rs1n made a tutorial with a good method (for DS Lite) but it works for DSi too. The top screen ribbon cables for both systems are pretty much identical!

The DS needs the top screen to be attached to work.
Actually I have recently found a way to do it with DSi... on the top screen's ribbon cable, there are six points: 2 for left speaker, 2 for right speaker, and 2 more. Place a resistor touching those last two points and the system will work without a top screen. Simple as that.

However, this means you have to clip the top screen off, thereby ruining the top screen. It might make sense to order a cheap replacement screen (~10 dollars from ebay) and use the cable from that instead. Plus it can be extremely helpful to have a spare top screen for troubleshooting purposes.

I rather enjoy a life of taking it easy. I haven't reached that life yet though.
