but i always find myself being too overcomplicating simple things and then getting too bored to finish writing it

By overcomplicating do you mean ensuring you use sensible variable names, making sure your code is understandable and making sure your code can be extended easily when you return with some time to play with? If so then that is a good thing.

Alternatively do you mean you spend ages rewriting functionality you could have spent 20 minutes searching for a library/open source program which does the same thing? That is not always bad but if you are still getting to grips with it then do the search.
