But Normatt's mod to GW launcher triggered the brick code, Correct ?

So? I install a motion detector(GW) in my car that explodes when a thief is detected. But it even activates/triggers when a bird flies by. Fault of the detection system or the bird that triggers the trap?

I wonder if Gateway would have put this brick code in the launcher if there were no clones on the market? Can't say the r4i team didn't play a part in this sick demented fiasco. I'm not saying it's right, but there aint nothing wrong with protecting your investment. Now, as a gateway owner, I gotta deal with this shit. Screw the clone carts.
Thankfully if the claims are to be believed, we gw users don't have to worry about accidentally bricking our consoles. So we can breathe in relief I guess for the time being. Though I still don't agree with this kind of move if it's true (which is leading to be, so far). The damage is far too severe for there to be any justification. And I can only see this as a loss for gateway (Scaring away potential buyer, won't gain anything from the victims, and just tarnishing their own name in general). Well, that is, unless they magically come up with a solution and paint themselves in a new (and heroic) light to win people's trust again and create more profit from that.

It's hard to believe that there is a timebomb built into Gateway's launchers, but even if there was was, I don't see the big issue as long as Gateway users are safe. If 3ds users are reporting bricks, then the finger should be pointed at the clone teams for doing a shoddy job porting and testing the modified launcher. You can't blame Gateway for having safeguards in place. The team can't provide any guarantees of the software working outside their flashcart. I agree that bricking console is a bit extreme, but you can't deny it makes them look great in front of future buyers who will reconsider purchasing a cheaper clone that can potentially brick their handheld.

I doubt most of them have interesting lives other than hacking handhelds and consoles, no offense ;-) not that this is in any way relevant to the discussion.

the point is: if you're gonna throw around very serious allegations, from a position of authority, back that shit up. how hard would it have been to provide evidence, if they had it?

Actually as far as I am concerned, I am very busy with my work and I also have to prepare for MCSA and MCSE that I am about to pass the following weeks.

That's just me though, so not much time for consoles other than minutes here and there. You shouldn't believe Hollywood stereotypes, hackers aren't all overfed students spending their lives messing with some obscure hardware in their basements, you know!? :P

Edit: This thread attacks the only DEVS of HOMEBREW 3DS . You are damaging yourself by going nuts on people as Gateway without sustainable evidence.
Sure, they're the only 3DS homebrew devs... except of the multitude of other homebrew devs who don't even require an external device to launch their code, developers like smea, for example.

The part that I don't like is that modifying your Launcher puts you into the same bag as a clonecart user.

The are the innovators, the developers, yes. R4is and others just copy Gateways product.

I know what you mean, but i meant.. only homebrew 3ds devs who provide us with ways to play 3ds roms.

I don't know if you're purposely ignoring my post or not but you seriously need how to read. Or is that too hard a task?

Err... I actually buy all my games so don't put us all in the same basket, thanks but no thanks.

If you don't own a flash cart, I don't know what you are doing in this thread then. Nothing here that concerns you. If you do, and you used it, even running roms for games you own, you are pirating, since for nintendo, and pretty much every other company, the simple fact of USING illegitimate hardware and/or software is considered piracy (even though, in practical terms, in pretty much every country, that doesn't count as piracy, so you can not be charged for OWNING and/or USING them, but still, you are a pirate in the eyes of many people). If you only purchased a flashcart to say you own one, congratulations, idk what to say to such action.

btw, I purchase games too, lots of them. But I'm still a pirate, and I love it.

The problem is, no one expected this. If people expected this, the region free hack would have been either patched properly to not brick things or not have been released altogether and depending on who expected it, the clone carts might not have updated either. Also, this thread wouldn't have 22 pages in a day.

frankly, I don't understand the point of this post or the previous one in the context of this thread.

I wish you luck on those certifications, thanks for your contribution.

Hah, you're really a thick one.

Name calling is for Grade 5s.

Or .... wait for it ....
maybe it's you that is thick ?

Just because someone's view differs from yours doesn't mean they are thick.

Using clone cards is dangerous.

If you're gonna make a douche comment on someone's ability to read.
Make sure you phrase the sentence properly.
