Hacking WARNING - Gateway team bricks card ON PURPOSE!

I mean It seems like Gateways post about modified launcher came as a warning for everyone. You don't have to update to the latest firmware. People buying a clone card knew they were not guaranteed quick updates. As for gateway people using this firmware, it doesn't appear after the weeks that it has been out that anyone has been affected by this code, if it is in there. It looked like there may have been one confirmed case, but there was no pictures or proof beyond the post. As a gateway user, I am not really outraged at all. Gateway pretty much said that other firmware is messing up. I feel like this can do 1 or both of two things.

1.Gateway gets more money and gets more resources to support faster and quicker updates
2.Other companies start to do work and breed competition for firmware to be updated faster and better.


Also to the people planning to boycott Gateway, you are only hurting yourself. Gateway has proven itself time and time again. They are not hurting their customers at all. You should boycott the other cards that just copy with no regard for their customers.

My 3ds is bricked here with retail pkm X and region free patched launcher.dat :/

Sorry to say that you'll most likely have to buy a new one. Simply reflashing a backup will not work from what we know.

Do your research and you won't be unaware.

Both the users and the clone teams are getting the spanking because no one did research.

You had plenty of info from GW saying there are clones and that their firmware will not work properly with them.

There's a difference between "may not work" and "has a guaranteed chance of permanently breaking your console because we thought that was a good idea".

Also this is freaking ridiculous. I wasn't going to get a 3DS flashcart any time soon but I certainly won't now.

Is it a huge, hundreds of MB data? - nope, not even 2mb.
How often are you getting SD out of 3ds?

Games are on microSD - ok. But launcher is on SD, which I never took out after GW update.

So the last question - if anyone here got brick because of "corrupted launcher" with original GW?
Sincerely doubt that. And if after my post I will have several replies like "I have",
then be pretty sure, that it will be clone users, or people related with clone products.

Personally I think that bricking with original GW and normal using
is almost impossible. That was my two cents.

You're like, "Fuck, well. At least it works. I didn't find this when I did my first research". You drive away, Honda placed a trap to find cloned cars, they throw a grenade at you, you jump out of the card but you are so hurt that you can't drive any more. Now you don't have a car (the flashcart), nor the need to buy a real Honda car because you can't drive any more (the 3ds).

It can get corrupted if your turn your 3DS off while it writes a save to the SD, too (either in GW mode or with original games).

The thing that seemed fishy was how gateway put up the warning that the issue was caused by clone cards and also to avoid the modified launcher. They didn't have enough time to realistically check their own code and were pretty confident that it was not at all their fault. It's weird when conspiracy theories come true.

This is terrible! Someone should make a list of all the actions that write to the SD card, then post it. That way, we can know when not to turn the system off.

No dude, your logic...seriously.... Honda develops a software for their car. The cloners copy the software and use it in their cars. Honda made it so if the software isnt used in the original car the car will brick beyond repair.

Also if the original car is modified , like switching other brand tires (region free hack) or happens to have a dent(sd card corruption) it will brick too. Not exactly safe huh.....

Just decrypt the Launcher.dat and understand it. After that, you will know that it's real. It's confirmed by Normatt (who made a retail game region unlock), Yellows8 (who released some DSi mode hacks), Neimod and Profi200.

Or it could just be that your SD card has a random defect. There is at least one user on this board who says that his 3DS got bricked (and he used the GW launcher).

I'm starting to get worried about this, and I have a Gateway, not a clone.
It is pretty bad that a one bit read or write error of launcher.dat at any stage could trigger an irrecoverable console brick.

Protecting one's work and doing deliberate damage to others' property should be two completely separate things. The Gateway team has gone too far with this and should just admit that the bricking is intentional - that they were trying to prove a shitty point. I don't want my 3DS to brick itself. If want it dead, I'll brick it myself.
