Remember how EA and Maxis were saying that SimCity, the reboot of the classic city planning franchise, could only work online? How they stated that the game was built entirely around the online features, even in the face of hacks that showed the complete opposite?

Turns out they don't!
SIMCITY OFFLINE IS COMING!

I’ve wanted to say those words for quite some time, so my apologies that I didn’t take the time to say Happy New Year first.

Yes, Offline is coming as a free download with Update 10 to all SimCity players. When we launch it, all of your previously downloaded content will be available to you anytime, anywhere, without the need for an internet connection. We are in the late phases of wrapping up its development and while we want to get it into your hands as soon as possible, our priority is to make sure that it’s as polished as possible before we release it. So, until then… testing, testing and more testing. As one of the final steps, we’re putting Offline into the hands of some of our most hardcore players, the DevTesters. This group of volunteers is going to put Offline through its paces before we release it.

In Update 10, you can still play solo in Regions on your own, or in Multiplayer with people from around the world. What’s new is the Single Player Mode, which allows you to play the game Offline by yourself. And because your saved games in this mode are stored locally, you can save and load to your heart’s content. Our team will be delivering a follow-up blog that will outline the full details in the near future so stay tuned.

You lucky fans, you get something that had no reason to be missing in the first place, and it's absolutely free! I mean, you had to wait a year, and you got a completely broken mess of a product, and it's not like anyone cares anymore, but, hey, you know... "free."

This fiasco has been one fumble after another, a race to the bottom fueled by utter incompetence every step of the way. EA, Maxis, if you wanted an accurate simulation of city planning... well, I guess you succeeded. Congrats?

I now wonder if this is the result of someone's (some more likely some committee's) ham fisted attempt to attempt to make the "first ? months are where the bulk of the sales happen" thing shift away from piracy a bit.

If you ask me, they were planning on doing this from the beginning. Start with the online requirement as an anti-piracy measurement (or worse: as a way to push DLC more in your face), and remove it later once the bulk of the customers have bought it. I mean...surely EA won't be running those simcity servers for the rest of eternity. So this is implemented now.

My bet is that within the next year, they'll first minimize, then drop online play completely.

The creepy thing about it is that first day adopter are doubly fucked. Not only do they pay full price, but they had to witness all the online issues first-hand.

To make matters worse is the existence of that offline hack. So instead of this being good news, it's actually bad news because everyone already know the "testing, testing and more testing" is just bullshit.

A News that say, "Now this game comes with offline mode" is the same of buy a car that "now comes with wheels"

You already could since 2 weeks after the release with server emulators.

You could pirate it before as well. The only people who got hurt by the online bullshit were the ones who bought the game.

Yeah but it was pain in the ass to set it up ( and i tried it already, no success lol).

F***ing finally!

Perhaps EA realized being the "worst company in the US" isn't the advertisement they needed.

on your favorite torrent site look for "sim city", sort for seeders, and grab it, probabily it will be the ready-to-use version. No pain at all

The one i tried asked for Origin account and stuff iirc,but.... i think we are not allowed to talk about that here lol ;A;
And thanks but i'll wait for the official offline mode.

The mods allow us to talk about everything here, what is forbidden is share pirated file, and share links, paths or tips to reach pirated files.

Glad I never bought the shitty game. Sorry EA, too little too late, this is why online DRM is a lost cause.
