Hello all, I purchased a Gateway a few days ago and have just received it in the mail. I have a few questions regarding the unit and would appreciate any help.

Alright, so I got it earlier, and going through manuals and the like, I believe I am running on v2.0b2. Stock system firmware is 4.3. EmuNAND is on the latest from wifi (7.1.0-14U).

Now, as for my few questions

-I have Pokemon Y retail cartridge. I am not 100% how I launch this. I am guessing I launch Gateway 3DS Classic Boot mode for my EMUNand. However. Even when booting into EmuNand, it asks me to download an update from the shop channel. I don't understand why it's still asking to update. Is this safe?
EDIT: Disabling wifi lets me start the game without asking for update (via eshop), but then tells me my save data is corrupted. What do I do to fix this?

-What are the differences between Gateway and Classic mode? Simply the cartridge type being flash or retail?

-Gateway 3DS team suggests setting parental controls to prevent accidental updates. I set parental controls, but I can't seem to figure out which setting prevents updates in particular. I'd rather not restrict everything if possible, and just update based. Which do I need to set?

- I read somewhere that when in Gateway mode, is it necessary to close software in-game to write the save data to the cartridge. Is this true for retail cartridges in addition to flash carts? Or are retail carts an exception to this rule?

I believe that what you need to update isn't system version, but the game itself. In that case I think it's safe to update the game. If it goes wrong it's in emuNAND anyways.

The difference between Gateway and Classic is just that Classic is for playing retail cart, it doesn't have region unlocked though.

The update is to use the online functions of the Pokemon game, this update is available on the eShop. Enter to the eShop and search for this update in the Pokemon section.

The second part is tricky. There's a problem with emuNAND that makes saves for retail new games incompatible, so you probably would like to wait for the next Gateway update and see if they fixed this.

My Gateway came today. Woo. I set it up, took some time but was worth it. Only tried one game so far but it ran awesomely. Worth the money. I'm happy with it. Bring on the next firmware! Can't wait till that's out. :)

Ah, I see. I'm not particularly worried of EmuNand getting goofed, so long as it doesn't touch my stock 4.3.

And as I was guessing, that clarifies Gateway and classic for me.

Oh right, I did play this for about 10 minutes on my brother's system. I am not concerned with my save data at all. If I could delete it and start fresh on EmuNAND, I'd do that.

Oh, and in addition to my question asking about closing the software to save title software, I am also curious if sleep mode has any complications when in Gateway/Classic mode.

Aslong as you don't wiggle the microSD or Gateway card it works fine

Fantastic.

Now, the only thing I have left to figure out is how to somehow delete the save data off my Y cartridge so I can boot it in classic mode. It just keeps locking me into a save data is corrupt screen.
Up + X + B in the loading screen takes priority of corrupted save data screen. I'm good to go.

Thank you everyone for the help.

I have 2 questions:

1- Maybe this is a stupid question, but, manual says, for saving, you must save in-game and then exit game with HOME and press X to select Close. If I press the HOME button and instead of pressing X, I touch the "Close" button, will it save too?

2-If I write a 3DS rom into one MicroSD, can I, in the future re-format that MicroSD into FAT32?

Please be sure that after you saved in-game and exited the game with HOME you wait 5-10 seconds until pressing X because if you don't your save could get corrupted

No there isnt all saves regardless are using the old KeyY method, games with 6.x update partition use the new method, hence saves being corrupted

soooo, I have a question, and maybe it was asked thousand times ( couldnt finde a serious answere)

I bought the gateway 3ds ( website said 7.1 support -.-' ") but this is only for emunand or something, my 3ds xl is 6.3xx and i read stuff about support for 6.xx and also I read about that 6.3 is un"hack"able and will never ever work with gateway 3ds, then i saw some dstwo card working with 6.3xx so to get to my question ( sorry xD)

Is there any chance that the next update will allow me to use Gateway 3DS on my 3ds with 6.3?

Also does the blue card( r4i to play normal ds games) also need to have 6.3 to work etc?

You can't, and it will probably never work. Sorry. You have to get a 4.0 - 4.5 3DS.

but why does dstwo work with it ( saw it on youtube ) and gateway not? thats serious shit... spend 70€ and now its not working, the website should have made it clear that 7.1 is not the 3ds firmware support

* Full support for firmware 7.1 (including saving and emunand GW3D indicator, etc.)

You should read more carefully.
Do you think that it will support 7.1 without going to 6.3 first? :|
And do your research.
