Is it relatively safe to use emunand 7.x to purchase eshop games now or could a future GW update invalidate the current emunand and lose all purchases? I don't think a re-format of emunad is needed from b1 to b2 but some people are doing this anyway. Or if needed, can I recreate emunand and re-download the eshop purchases since it is to the same 3DS? I suspect this process may invalidate old save game data on the SD card.
Yep. I've been patiently waiting for this update so I could do just that.
Your eshop purchases are tied to your console's unique hardware id, which should be the same regardless of whether you're on the system nand or emunand, so the worst that could happen is that you have to redownload them.
You're also right about not having to reformat your emunand to upgrade from b1 to b2.
As far as I can tell, everything that was working on my 6.3 emunand is still working on 7.1 except for the Youtube app, and I don't think a reformat would change that.

Also, a friendly reminder:
If you haven't updated your emunand yet, be sure that you only do so via System Settings whilst in Gateway mode.
If the firmware version isn't prefixed by "GW3D" in System Settings, it's not safe to update. Just be careful please :)

Question for the new version.

After the chaos that happened to my defective gateway card, is this firmware safer? I got an RMA and probably will get my card back in a few days.

Any save corruptions being reported or card removed or anything like that?

I never really had any problem with Gateway. Hope you get a good one :)

I have a few questions, some have been answered already:

In regards to EShop purchases (or downloads with a code) and ...

a) the ability to redownload them:
i) Can you do this if you update your emuNAND (assuming GW works on that version)? Yes?
ii) Can you do this if you format your SD and remake the emuNAND "partition"?
iii) Can you do this if you theoretically updated your sysNAND?

b) the ability to reuse your saves:
i) if you backed up your SD, formatted it (the SD), remade the emuNAND "partition" and restored the saves to the SD?
ii) if you backed up the saves, theoretically updated your sysNAND, redownloaded the game and restored the save files?

All of them are "yes", excluding b)ii).

a few questions, i looked in FAQ ect sooo to no luck or avail!

bear with me!!

i need to get my gw3ds first in order to play pokemon x or y without it forcing my 3ds to a higher firmware past 4.5?

once i safely install gw3ds to my 3ds, am i safely able to play pokemon x and y retail as well as have full support of online features?

No, all you need is a DS-mode flashcart to get into EmuNAND Classic (via GW_INSTALLER.NDS and then entering DS profile while holding L and selecting Boot Classic Mode), from which you can play any retail cartridge with online and everything.

Edit: You'll also need Launcher.dat on your SD card, and you'll have to set up EmuNAND.

If you plan on buying gateway, then it will come with two cards, one for ds to activate the exploit and one to play 3ds games. You don't have to buy another separate ds flashcart to play your retail pokemon.

and ill be able to play online? without messing firmware up on nand or having pokemon/nintendo finding out about my 3ds having exploit?

If you have 4.X and use exploit then you can EmuNand to 7.1 and play a REAL Pokemon Card Online. ROM will never work.

I mean "Online Gaming" with ROM sorry. Maybe miss spoken. There was a News anywhere that ROM not work Online due they have a Serial which is registered to Account. (3DS ROMs)

This is probably a really stupid question, and i apologise, How do you save when using gateway? i've read somewhere that you press the Home button and exit out the game that way? is that correct? and if true does anyone have any pomblems with Scribblenauts Unmasked?, because when i exit out via the home button, the screen hangs/crashes.
