did you backup Nand first through gateway gui software? save that nand.bin to your PC. if so you can flash back too 4.x via that backup with a hardware flasher.

See bolded.
Did you have to accept some terms and conditions when you set up your WiFi connection?
If you did, it probably booted you out of settings. When it boots you out of settings, it also boots you out of Gateway Mode.
You probably went back into settings, thinking you were still in Gateway Mode. But you weren't, and then you updated your SysNAND instead of the EmuNAND.

but the other big thing is you only update from in settongs app via update system section when version info show GW3D .... never update from eshop app

D'oh! I didn't even see that!
Yeah, updating from the eShop is a big no no! That will definitely fail without question.

Yeah, it very clearly states in the instructions to only update through system settings:

Always read the instructions first.

Have you made a backup of the NAND? That was also part of the instructions, I believe.
If you made a backup, you can restore your 3DS through some soldering.

can i please ask a question about this damn emunand method. do you really need it to play latest games ? the reason why i was updating is because i read a on the forum someone saying you will need nandemu if you want to play future v5+ games. is this true ?
