Hardware Gioteck Wii U GC-2 wireless Controller

Hi, I'm interested in this controller, but can't seem to find any decent reviews for it (only for its ps3 version), so I was wondering, if maybe one of you tried it or knows somebody, who did or maybe can find a review for it, that doesn't sound like it was written by the gioteck guys themselves....

I want to know, how exactly this thing works... as far as I understand, it's supposed to be a wireless classic controller, but do I have to plug some kind of dongle into one of my wiimotes or can it connect to the wii/wiiu by itself and works as a stand-alone classic controller? I own 3 Wiimotes and 1 classic controller, that I plug into a wiimote, when I play games like Super Smash Bros Brawl with my friends and I am thinking about either getting a 4th Wiimote + another classic controller or maybe this controller, if it really can work as the 4th controller without the need of another Wiimote.

I have the Nyko pro controller for Wii U. works great and has a nice soft, non-slip surface. Amazon has it right now for under $14 with prime.

Im trying to decide whether to buy a 4th Wiimote + classic controller OR a controller, that can work as a classic controller on its own, without having to buy a 4th Wiimote.... which I hope, this controller is capable of, but I still cant find a reliable review about it :/
alternatively I could get an Interworks Controller Pro U (or Interworks Retro Classic Controller, how it is called now), but I have read some very mixed reviews about that one >__<

Bladexdsl is talking about the Wii U Classic Controller, not Wii Classic Controller. And he's right, why do you want that controller when the Nintendo official one is a safer buy?

If you want it to play Smash then I recomend Mayflash GC Controller Adapter for Wii/Wii U, then you have connected a real Gamecube controller, which in my opinion is the best controller to play Smash , the adapter even sopports Wavebirds.

Please show me what classic controller you mean, which is supposed to be wireless.
I know the classic controller and the classic controller pro, both are plugged into the wiimote and then there is the wiiu pro controller which is wireless, but is a wiiu controller, not supported by wii games. If Im wrong, please correct me, I just dont know any other original nintendo controllers...
A wiimote without nunchuks costs (where I live) 45-50€, a classic controller 20€, classic pro 25
So a combo of wiimote + classic costs me at least 65€, that should be like 80$.... that giotek controller costs like 25€ and if it works as a wireless classic controller without the wiimote, then I save 40€

wiiu controller pro is wireless, but not wii compatible, just for wiiu games....

Mayflash adapter 17€ + GC Controller 9-10€ + Wiimote to plug in (45-50€) ... I'd really rather buy a 25€ controller, that is a classic controller on its own... we are casual smash players, we play it like once every 1 or 2 months for a couple of hours... no way, Im gonna spend so many € on that just for 1 more controller, so I won't have to lend me the 4th controller every time...

you did need it for Wii games, I though you were asking for Wii U games, yeah Wii U Pro Controller doesn´t work in Wii mode. Even I´d consider that Mayflash adapter I put in the link, so you can play with a GameCube controller, either way the controller you show up is a good deal, just make sure it´s compatible in Wii mode, I have a Lego Wiimote and can´t be syncronized in Wii U.

The Wii U Pro Controller is perfectly good. If this is cheaper I would go for it but it is a brand I never heard about. I use the Pro Controller for everything Zelda, Pikmin, Super Mario World, and Wonderful 101

It says the controller works with 2.4 GHz wireless technology and connects directy with the Wii U. This means that the controller uses a bluetooth connection and thus a wiimote is not needed. At present it's sort of a replacement for a wiimote connected with a classic controller as it supports wii games only. Future versions of this controller will support Wii U games according to the info at the bottom of the linked page, which means it will be a replacement for the original Wii U Pro controller except that it also supports Wii games (which the original Pro Controller from Nintendo doesn't). Appealing I must say...

ok, I never for once said, I wanted it for WiiU mode, I always said, I want it for super smash bros brawl, which clearly is a wii game and I repeatedly talked about classic controllers, which you usually use for wii games .... so sry, if I got you confused, but that's why I kept repeating, there is no wireless nintendo classic controller... only that Interworks Retro Classic Controller and that Gioteck Controller, which function as a wireless classic controller without having to plug them into an extra Wiimote (which would be damn expensive)


edit: WiiUBricker yes. its supposed to be a wireless classic controller without the need of a Wiimote.. however, I have yet to find a reliable review about its performance :/
but I dont think, this exact controller will be working as pro controller and as classic controller... with future version, they mean they will release a new product, that will be a cheaper version of a pro controller.. not that this classic controller will do the same, that would be too awesome, lol...
but just for the fact, that it is a wiimote with plugged in classic controller for easily half the price, makes it appealing for me as a controller for super smash bros brawl

Wouldn't it work in Wii mode then? vWii only supports Bluetooth, yes, but Bluetooth is a wireless connection within the 2.4GHz band. So I would guess that's what they're using.

I am interested in this controller too. I t would be nice to a have a totally wireless controller for my Wii. Has anyone tried it? Does it work okay?

Apparently it works on Wii as well. Taken from a review on the amazon.co.uk page:

Ordered mine from gamers outlet, delivered by amazon. Appears well built and is the later model with a switch on the back so that you can select it to be a wii classic ccontroller or a wii u pro controller. Only used with my wii so far and it has worked well for wirtual console titles as well as homebrew emulators. Watchout for the earlier models that are onle classic controllers and not wii u pros. Very pleased for my £14.99, less than half the price of a nintendo controller.

Its pretty clear where the confusion in this thread came from. The OP posted in the Wii U section of the forums about a wireless controller that's actually a standard Wii Pro controller that is wireless. It doesn't help that on the site it is listed as a Wii U accessory and looks strikingly similar to the Wii U Pro controller. Anyway, this is cool and all, but I'd rather just wait for the GC connector thing for the Wii U, I imagine Nintendo will create some sort of vWii firmware update (if neccesary) that will allow one to play their favorite wii games that let you use GC controllers with the new adapter.

Just to clarify, the new version of this controller has a switch and can act either as Wii Classic Controller or WiiU Pro Controller so it's not "obsolete", it's like "backwards compatible". Personally, I have 3 Classic Controllers but it would be nice to have a truly wireless one.

I bought this controller from amazon 2 weeks ago for £14.99 in preperatio for Wii Wii Mario kart.

Didn't expect much for the money but it has turned out to be a stupendous bargain IMO.

Its more responsive than the pro controller, excellent build quality thumb sticks & buttons feel 'just right' !!

You sync in once in Wii u mode it then links automatically every time.it can be used to power on the console & control the main Wii u menu.

Boot into vwii mode, flick the switch on the back & it turns into a Wii classic controller instantly.

Works with everything I've thrown at it , must have pulled over 20 hours on a full charge & its still showing half power.

A bargain buy now IMO even at £25.

Oh that's cool. I might get one of those then when they come out. But how is it really? Usually 3rd party controllers end up sucking.

Apparently the old models that you want to avoid are GC2WII-11 (white) and GC2WII-12 (black). The new ones are GC2WII-13 (white) and GC2WII-14 (black) but usually you can't see any difference online. I might wait until there aren't any of the old model left before I order online. They only seem to be available in retail in the UK.
