I never noticed a problem on my 3DS XL. If there is a problem than the 2DS will not have it. My understanding is the 2DS actually only has one big screen, so the top and bottom should be exactly the same.

I have a 2DS so I'll see if I notice anything when I get a chance.

I was going to comment on the 2DS as well but wasn't sure where to do it. I have one issue with it so far and that is the sleep switch. It is not as easy to use as it should be. I have no problems using it but do think it could have been designed better and at least one of my kids (age 5) can not seem to figure out how to use it with his little fingers. It just has ridges and for me I just use the flat side of my thumb and can apply enough pressure to slide it. My boy cant seem to do that and he tries to use his fingernail and just can't apply enough force to move the switch.

Hey bud! I went down to my local Target and put the 2DS and 3DS side by side. I only had a few seconds to take the photos but guess what - 2DS Screen is perfect. Full resolution, no scan line look. Exactly like your 3DS on the lowest 3D mode but without the annoying downsides that come along with parallax technology.

See the edges of the letter A? More resolution on the 2DS

Doesn't look like a higher resolution to me, it does however look like the 2DS has both horizontal and vertical lines which makes each pixel look sharper whereas the 3DS has only horizontal lines which makes the pixels blur together a bit more.

I play with an XL and it's physically impossible to unsee the pixels.

I disagree. I think it's very noticeable at first, but you forget about them after a while. Graphics on the 3DS XL look pretty horrendous (especially text), but once you accept that it looks horrendous and move on to actually playing games, you learn not to care.

I do wish Nintendo would release more powerful versions of their consoles, because I do think that graphics can improve the experience. However, it never stops me buying them because I know I'll enjoy playing the games as they are.

OP, do you always play with the 3DS stuffed up your nose? That's the only way you can see the difference
I was thinking the same thing. Considering I don't have the 3ds XL, I have to take his word for it that the difference is so bothersome and that he isn't
just looking too much into it.

I disagree. The reason I play all games and browse the eShop and 3DS menu with 3D on at the lowest depth is because I can't get used to having a scanlined topscreen. You notice it better with NES VC games. Mega Man for example literally looks like crap because you can't get rid of those scanlines. DS games are looking even worse on the topscreen.

I can even see the pixels on most smartphones unless they have 1280×720 with a ppi of 300+
Doesn't mean pixels makes stuff look bad though :P

Just played Mega Man in my regular 3DS and noticed no scanline of sorts, at least nothing that my eyes could notice. The game looks great in my 3DS.
But NES games always had scanlines (at least if you play it with the actual console in a tube tv). You should be happy, you got a vintage visual :P

How was 3D disabled in the comparison photos? By taking the slider all the way down or via the parental controls? I heard that turning off 3D in the parental controls is the only true way to completely disable it since with just the slider all the way down, the parallax barrier is still active.

The slider does nothing to the parallax barrier, which is in a fixed state inside the screen. The slider just computationally moves the right and left images closer or further apart to decrease/increase the illusion of depth. When the slider is all the way down, the left/right images are identical.

Also, the parental control 3d toggle is functionally equivalent to turning the slider all the way down. (except it gives you a nag screen every time you boot an app)

I generally don't play DS/NES games on the 3DS. I do agree with you that they look bad, I just think it's forgettable once you start playing. I would have gladly paid £50-100 more for a better screen and higher resolution on my 3DS XL, but since that's not an option I am happy playing nonetheless.

@BigOnYa I wanted to ask you about your experience with seeing south park. Most of the people a bit younger like my younger brother and cousins that are a few younger than me that saw kids found south park funny because of the curse words, kids at school, that seemed like liking the show on a very basic level.

I could not quite have a in depth discussion of the show.

How was it for you? As an adult. What did you find the most interesting part about it. Did you relate to the parents of the kids and their situations. Was it satires, the commentary on society. The references on celebrities' and pop culture.

I remember seeing the very first episode back in the day, and have watched every episode since. I used to set my VCR to record them even, shows how long ago.
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I just like any comedies really, and cartoons have always been a favorite of mine. Family guy, American Dad, Futurama, Cleveland Show, Simpsons - I like them all.

South Park is great cause they always touch on relavent issues going on today, and make something funny out of it.

@BigOnYa were you always up to date on the current events and issues of the time or were there issues that you first found out thru south park
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Most of the time yea I knew, I watch and read the news regularly, but sometimes the Hollywood BS stuff, like concerning actors slip by me. I don't follow most Hollywood BS (example: the Kardasians)

@BigOnYa there were relevant issues before south park was made, that's why i think a south park prequel/spinoff would be great. Randy and his friends in their child hood

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea, like them running in high school together, getting into stuff, and how they got hitched and had kids. And how the town of South Park was back then compared to now. That would be cool to see.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
    yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@salazarcosplay if they made a prequel, it would still be about current issues, cause it doesn't make sense to make it about stuff that happened 30 years ago that nobody cares about anymore
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    it's too late
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the older south park episodes about particular issues usually age poorly since the topic is no longer relevant
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
an exception is giant douche vs turd sandwich, that's always relevant :P
