As just about everybody knows, PokeBank is coming out around Christmas.

I'm trying to get together a legit living PokeDex on White 2 cartridge.

Hardware I own:
DS Lite and the new Pokemon X version 3DS XL (6.3.0-12)
R4 Revolution for DS (NDSL/NDS) (Black sticker with silver font/logo)
R4i Gold Revolution
Action Replay DSi
2GB and 8GB MicroSD Cards

Physical copies of backups of the following Pokemon games:
Fire Red, Ruby, HG+SS, D+P+Plat, B+W, W2

My question is this:
If I wanted to use Emulators for turbo, easier AR usage (masterballs, run speed, exp. rate, etc.), save states, etcs., what games do I need to play physical copies of?

Do I have the necessary hardware to restore save games onto physical NDS cartridges? I looked at the thread but found myself unable to determine the proper path/conclusion through the questions.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

You will need a physical copy of BW/BW2. How you get Pokemon from other save files to your physical copy of either Black, White, Black 2, or White 2 is up to you. Your options include trading Pokemon to a BW/BW2 retail cartridge, restoring save files to a BW/BW2 retail cartridge, using AR codes to generate specific Pokemon on a BW/BW2 retail cartridge, or some combination the three.

The end goal is a complete living dex on White 2. I can obtain any Black 2 exclusives from friends I'm sure.

I understand that those are the options. I'd like to refrain from generating any Pokemon. But I'd also like to refrain from using my real cartridges with the exception of White 2.

Starting from Ruby, how far can I get without using a physical cartridge?

Items given to pokemon will get taken from them and placed into your bags. So no you can't transfer masterballs or rare candys and stuff.

You can transfer pokemon no problem as long as they are legit. By legit everyone is guessing you can play them online / correct move sets and catch locations the basic stuff.

You only need a Pokemon black/white Black 2/ White 2 game. Any 1 of these BUT IT HAS TO BE RETAIL.
You can download or have a save on the r4 card and transfer this save to the Retail card. This can be done over Wifi or with the aid of a slot 2 card.

I have done the following:
Made a .Sav of pokemon white 2 with all event pokemon + others i want.
Put the .Sav onto my FTP server.
Put r4 card into DS with FTP save transfer tool.
Transferred my save using this tool to my retail pokemon white 2 card.

So now as it stands i have a Retail Pokemon White 2 game loaded with my save file i was using on my PC/R4.
Here is what i have below:

Pokebank and poketransfer will be something you download from Eshop. You will load up Pokebank with pokemon white/black white 2/black 2 and transfer the pokemon you want over to poke bank. (this is why you will need a retail card as the app will read from game). You will then take out pokemon black/white and insert pokemon X and Y. Once this is done you load up poke transfer and transfer the pokemon you placed onto poke bank.

You can't trade them back once its done its a one way thing. But if like me you backed up your save you can just copy the old backed up save to the retail card and transfer them over and over again :).

It sounds like you have everything but again here is a list.
Retail Pokemon White/Black
R4
Save game manager
an FTP server or Slot 2 card.
A Pokemon .save with legit pokemon you want.

You can use a Save game dongle instead of the r4 but yeah no point/need in buying one as you can just transfer the save from a FTP server easy.

Wonderful, thanks for the in depth response. Like I said, I own all the things mentioned (: I'll be sure to back up my save before I restore the living dex one. I'll be shy a few legit event pokemon but that's okay.

Once everything is on your pokemon black/white save just download PokeGen (http://projectpokemon.org/) that site also has a list of all the event pokemon for download. You can actually download an inject the WonderCards and stuff so you even have to go to the dude at pokemon centre to collect pokemon. The event pokemon would appear just as legit as if you got them during the event.

NP, Good luck.

Can anybody recommend a Slot 2 card with retailers? I can't seem to get the Wi-Fi + FTP server method to work. I've tried both internet sharing and making my router unprotected. The software instantly says that it cannot connect/find the access point. Other threads indicated DLDI files are missing but I don't know where to start with that.

You can use a public FTP server you dont have to set one up :) I use my web hosts one and it works fine. Best to buy a save transfer dongle it will be far cheaper and more easy than slot 2. I found all but 1 of the transfer save tools didnt work. The one that did work was Wifi. The others are fine on most games but they just didnt work with pokemon at all.

I could also use some help with this. I want to transfer my Black 2 save on my flashcart to my pc, copy the pokemon using pokesav, and then put them on my retail white. I have 3DS Save Dongle from R4, but the Black save is unreadable with Pokesav and pokegen. What other methods could I use? I basicly want to transfer every pokemon (around 7 boxes)

Okay thank you, any recommendations for doing the FireRed->HG/SS part?

With a DSTWO and a slot-2 card you can do that transfer. I forget the details of it, but I believe you first need to copy the FireRed rom and gamesave to the same directory on the DSTWO as the HG/SS rom and save. Then when browsing roms on the DSTWO you can select an option to load a GBA rom at the same time and you'd choose the FireRed rom. Sorry I can't be more specific, but it's been awhile. I also think this requires you to have a special patch on your HG/SS rom that will make it load from the correct type of GBA save since flashcarts use a different save type than the original pokemon games do.

Given your current hardware you can't do it, but if you get yourself a slot 2 card (EZ Flash 3-in-1 for instance) then the R4i might have an option similar to the DSTWO that lets you do the transfer. If not then you can NOR flash the gba rom to the slot 2 card. That will work.

For all the DS games you can use PokeGen to export pokemon from one game then import them into another. If I remember correctly, doing this creates a glitch where you'll have a pokemon, but your pokedex won't say you do. You can fix that by dropping the pokemon off at the day care then picking them up.

So then the only card you need a physical copy of is White 2. You'd transfer the White 2 gamesave from the flashcart to the physical copy then Poketransfer them up to X/Y.

I don't know if there is some sort of POKESAV application for the Gen III games, if there is I would advise using said program to extract the .pkm files from the Gen III games and insert them into the Gen VI's Pal Park.

I would then Pal Park the Pokemon to the ROM of the Gen VI games, then trade them all to a retail copy of a Gen VI game.

You need a retail copy of a Gen VI game to do the first gen jump from Gen VI > Gen V. Gen V uses DS Download play to transfer the Pokemon from D/P/PL/HG/SS to B/B2/W/W2. I would advise transferring them to a retail copy of the Gen V games.

You could then trade with the ROM of the other Gen V game to get the version exclusives in Black, Black 2 and White 2.

Finally with your living Pokedex on your retail White cart, insert it into a 3DS and launch the Poke Transfer app. Do take note that you WILL have to pay an annual fee of $5 a year if you wish to continue transferring up your Pokemon from Gen VI to Gen VII and upwards, and the PokeBank will be the solution Game Freak will use. (That is, unless someone can create a Local Pokebank hack that spoofs the PokeBank Servers on a local computer, doubt that'll ever happen though as it'll require alot of coding and hacking and stuff.)

tl;dr
ROMS: R/S/E/FR/LG -> (Gen III Save Editor) Extract .pkm files -> Insert .pkm files into the Pal Park on Gen VI ROMS -> Trade to retail copy of a Gen VI Game (D/P/PL/HG/SS) -> PokeTransfer to retail Gen V Game (White) Trade any version exclusives from Black, Black 2, and White 2 to retail copy of White -> PokeTransfer Pokemon from Retail White copy to PokeBank -> Withdraw Pokemon from PokeBank into X or Y. Optional; troll people on random matchups with Shedinja.

There isn't generation 7 games yet. X and Y are generation 6.

This is the only one i found that works with Pokemon Black 2 / White 2. Not tested on just Black/White but it should work!.

https://code.google.com/p/savegame-manager/

Download this, setup a FTP server or have one you can use. Get the IP / Username / Password for the FTP server and edit the config of savegame-manager. Then place this on the "ROOT" it has to be "root" of the SD card that you are going to put in flashcard. Oh and the #Language in the config remove the "#" as it is causing an error where you just see a black screen.

So if you have done everything above correct you should now have an SD card with Save Game manager extracted to the root of it. This should have a config file "the .ini one" with your FTP settings and the "#" remove from language.

Now just boot 3DS up with Flashcard and load Save Game Manager just like any DS game.
Click RESTORE.
It will say Insert Game.
Put Pokemon White/Black in
It will connect to FTP server and you choose file to restore. It seams to work with ALL .SAV FORMATS it converts them for you i guess. I had a 512kb .Sav from R4 card so that format works 100% if you have trouble.
It should then transfer the save from FTP server to retail card replacing any current save on the retail card.

You can select backup first to place a backup of retail save before restoring the edited one.

What i would recommend is make a .Sav first via Backup then just inject any .PKM into it you want. http://projectpokemon.org/ have a tool for this called PokeGen. They also have all the Event pokemon. You can download these are wondercards this means when the game is on retail card or running in emulator you can collect event pokemon from the delivery dude in poke centre :D so they will be 100% legit. You can also download many .PKM files of legal pokemon and place these into PC box with this tool.

Once you have got the.Sav you want put that file onto the FTP server and restore with that save using the info above.

This does work i have done it a few times now what i did was use my save from emulator on PC that i placed every single pokemon you can get on that is shiny and all event pokemon, also made a few duplicates of stuff like Mew, Shiny Charizard, Logia and maxed the IV/EV's out of many of them pokemon.

The save transferred perfect to my White 2 :D Once i have transferred them to pokebank i am just going to restore the save again back to white 2 so i get all pokemon kept on both pokemon y and white 2.

If you edit the config file correct and have a FTP with read/Wright access you should have no issues. I won't help beyond this post plenty of guides on this site and youtube.

Note: I have a EZ Flash and found none of the other save game managers worked for pokemon, they were fine for other games but just failed for pokemon. The only one that works is the one in that first link and thats via Wifi/FTP.

Oh and to get legit pokemon from R/S/E/P/D/SS/HG just extract the pokemon from the .Sav with PokeGen/PokeSav. You can then place these in the Friend Safari/Palpark thing on black/white when game has been complete. :) PokeSav wont work on Gen 5 but PokeGen will. So yeah extract with PokeSav from games prior to Gen 5 and then use PokeGen to trade to Gen 5.

How about, you know...

Upload the pokemon to pokecheck and sending them to a legit B/W 2 cart when you're all done? Much easier.

because you cannot transfer everything at once? Like my save in the youtube video every single box is filled once you have transfer tool setup it takes seconds. All you do once tool is config is place whatever save you want on FTP and load R4 card, put in pokemon game and hit restore and select the file from FTP. The whole process takes less than 1min once the config is all sorted and you can then do it over and over with whatever save you want.

And this way when pokebank is out you can transfer your save to multiple retail cards for friends pokebanks.
