Hardware Wiimote charger recommendations ...

Hi all,

After a recommendation for the a charger for 2 wiimotes. I have had about 3 of the £5/6 eBay efforts but it always seems impossible to get the wiimotes to sit in the 'docks' properly. You get what you pay for I guess.

So, anyone use a charger that works everytime ? Can be either powered via USB or a normal plug.

I have a DreamGear charger that does the tablet, pro controller, and two wiimotes.

I use some kind of Energizer charger for 4 wiimotes. Works great.

I just bought a bunch of rechargeable batteries(amazon basics) for cheap and cycle them through the charger a I'm never out of power. This way I'm not stuck with a one use item. Versatility is great especially with batteries, considering I have a bunch of other electronics that could use the batteries.

Official Wiimote charger is available from the Nintendo Store for $40 - only charges one at a time though. Just thought I'd throw this option out there.

Just use NiMh rechargeable batteries.

I had nothing but problems with charging accessories. NiMh batteries are the best, they hold there charge forever so I always have spares and simply swap them out as needed.

Get an induction charger. This wqy you dont have to worry about loose contacts and you can charge the battery packs with or without them being in the wiimote.

From prior experience, don't use the Duracell NiMH rechargables. They completely destroyed my first Wii controller. It wouldn't take a charge from a battery no more, and it's about as good as a paperweight now.

I've got a MeWe 4-remote charger and I'm really happy with it. It has a status LED for each remote. No-light means there's not Wiimote docked, Red means charging, and Green means fully charged. Doesn't seem to be available on Amazon anymore, but maybe you can find one somewhere. If you do look at the Amazon listing, you'll see it's really well reviewed.

sry thats a german site, but its just an example... cost like 15€ and it includes 2 induction rechargable battery packs, I have 2 of them (just because the 2x complete packet is actually cheaper then buying 1 packet + 2 replacement battery packs, lol) and I just use 1 of the 2 rechargers that I have, so I can charge 2 battery packs, while I also use 2 packs in 2 wiimotes =)
and you can charge the batteries while inside a wiimote or outside, doesnt matter and there are no contact problems, because there are no contacts.. it charges via induction and there are some magnets build into the charger and the battery pack, so the pack doesnt slip off the charger

the energizer chargers are cool, specially since some of them are by induction, I have myself one that can charge 2 wiimotes at a time.

ah i got those too, my only issue is that it doesn't take long for those batteries that comes with it tends to die, so you have to buy more of those kinds.
just wished they lasted a bit longer. it irks me when one day they just don't charge anymore..

well, since i never have a single problem with a 1st party product, i'm going to buy this!
as long as the batteries can be recharged for a long while, im happy.

That's crazy. I got several different brands including duracell that I mix and match all the time. I am not sure how that could happen but it sounds like a problem with the battery contacts.

I am pretty sure NimH batteries are even officially endorsed in Wii instruction manual.

They don't hold their charge very well. After a few uses, or if you don't use them for awhile, they refuse to recharge or have little capacity. I find myself with dead NiMH batteries before I have company over again. Plus, you have to take the sleeves off to replace them.

That is why people need to buy low self-discharged NiMH such as Panasonic eneloop.

Most NiMH battery have very high self-discharge rate, along with memory effect. LSD NiMH does not.

You are talking about the wiimote rubber covers? I don't usually keep those on my controllers.

You must have some bad batteries or something because that is not typical of Nimh batteries.

I have been using mine for over 6 years and have never had to replace any of them.

I have spares that I leave charged in a drawer for who knows how long and they are always fully charged when I put them in the controller (I get 4 lights flashing anyway).

The only problem I have is making sure everyone knows they are rechargeable and that they don't throw them out when they need new batteries.

Are you sure you are not talking about NiCd batteries?

Nimh can be charged like 1500 times and hold their charge for years when stored. At least 75% charge after 3 years.

I have eneloop as well as duracell and energizer ones and they all seem the same to me.

Eneloop is my favorite mainly because the colors they use tend to make people think twice before tossing them in the garbage.

I use them in my wii controllers, 360 controllers, wii balance board, even the stupid extended range wii sensor bar. Never had a problem with them at all.
