the_randomizer if you are worried about a buyer on ebay not paying then require them to pay when they buy it. Also you can just not ship it to them until you have received the payment. Also you can easily sell a newish xl on amazon for $170-$190 ish

Hmmm, I don't know yet, I guess I can hold off and see if will eventually support newer firmware. Like Foxi4 said, no system, not even the 3DS, is perfectly safe from exploits. If they team can pull this kinda stuff off, then they can sure as hell support new firmware, but at the same time, it might not be for a long time.

Ok guys I don't fully understand what this update means so I need some to dumb it down for me. I want to play Pokemon off its retail cart which requires 6.1. Is this possible some how with this update or no? Also does this update fix the games that wouldn't work because of NAND sav files ?

Maybe and no. There is no fix for the NAND save games yet, only for MH4 which was just AP patched and didn't use a NAND for saving. Gateway is "officially working on XY" as they said.

No one knows if it will allow you to play retail carts like normal, but possibly yes. They did say you'll be "allowed to run up-to-date firmware, without the need for spoofing!", what is involved in that, no one really knows yet. Gateway is bound to get mails about it and answer accordingly soon.

This is a brilliant update. I am reminded of the initial progress of the Wii homebrew scene - Pretty soon I imagine we should be able to install homebrew to our emulated NAND a la the Homebrew Channel, or maybe even get a CFW :)

Would running the virtual 6.3 require the gateway be in the drive during operation thus preventing using a retail game cart ? Or is it like an install thing then switch to retail cart if you want?

The way I imagine it working is that the NAND is being emulated by running from the SD card, which is being accessed by the Gateway card. You remove the Gateway card, you remove the virtual NAND emulation, and you're back to your 4.x firmware.

Edited to add: In other words, this would mean no support for retail carts that require updating to a higher firmware.

I don't really understand how it works. Can someone explain?
More or less, this is my understanding of how nand emulation works. Someone please feel free to correct/humiliate me if I'm wrong.

It...
1. Makes an exact copy of your 3DS nand (firmware 4.5) to the SD card.
2. Applies patches to the SD copy of your nand to make it 6.3 compatible.
3. Runs the patched v6.3 off your SD so you can play new backup games and access online features.

If it is emulating a NAND it would support updating.

It's important for society to be healthy and educated. If those things can't happen because all of the institutions that prop up those industries make it unattainable for all but a small portion of society, then your society is largely going to be disease ridden, dying, and uneducated in very short order.

Issue is it's too rich of a coperation already with bad sugar diets causing diabetes and killing teeth a new set of teeth around 90k

I agree it's not easy for the average American, let alone the ones below that average. Free / cheaper healthcare is much more important I think than free university education.
Of course like @mthrnite said, why not both. But I doubt both will get solved at once, and surely healthcare is top priority.

If it's needed to keep you healthy it shouldn't cost you $90k. The fact that it does is an enormous problem

And if the concern is that "well we can't trust the government to intervene for this because the government can't do anything right and wastes tons of money" then holy shit push for a better government. I'm certainly trying to. Don't throw your hands up and go "we've tried nothing and we're all out of ideas"

Plus technology cost iirc even a water jet drill is 1k per
  • cearp @ cearp:
@K3Nv2 that's crazily expensive. how long will that take to pay off?

Although diet is largely education, people don't need to go to university to learn what's healthy and what's not,
it's the whole country, big corporations and advertising that is to blame for leading most of the population to believe that poptarts and froot loops are healthy to feed a child
  • mthrnite @ mthrnite:
i would think the population knows better but with food deserts and abject poverty, sometimes a poptart gonna have to do.

As someone who went through the grade school system in the US some time within the past 30 or so years, not nearly enough is done to promote and educate on how to eat healthy in a way that is feasible to do on a regular basis and also affordable. Eating healthy is, comparatively, fucking expensive. So is eating unhealthy, but in many cases eating unhealthy is more affordable than eating healthy
