Hacking R4i V1.4.1 stuck on kernel version 1.42. Please help!

Hey guys,

I'm trying to update my R4i V.1.4.1 to the latest kernel V1.74b but I'm having a few problems.

I opened the zip file and copied over all the files contained within V1.74b to my SD card, I then read that you may have to update through going into config and update but it says

"Current version: Support Model: NDSL,NDSI 1.42" and there is nothing else there (no start option or any other version available).

How can I get my R4i v.1.4.1 up to date?
Also will this let me use my R4i V1.4.1 on my 3DS? (the whole reason I'm doing this ha!)

Note:

I tried to get this to work before I realised you had to go into config and update....I hope it hasn't messed up my R4i :/

Kernel is purely the menu version and game compatibility

Firmware Updates is what updates the card to work on newer consoles Firmware
and as thats states the last update available for you card makes it work on 2.1.0
and that is as high as it will go

When I plug it into my 3Ds xl I get "There is nothing inserted into the Game Card slot".

that may mean the card is bricked then if it does not show up at all
or that there is a contact issue

So I guess my only option now is to buy a new R4 card? It works on my DS still.

Could you recommend one for the 3DS?

How do they get "bricked"? Just so I don't end up doing it again in the future...

normally bricking is turning it off while updating the card firmware

DSTwo is the best flashcard

RGF's Kernel is on this forum

erm no lol lol the Flashcard files can only go on the MicroSD that goes into the flashcard
is a DS card also, and only goes in a DS card slot

Ahh I forgot its a MicroSD and the 3ds has an SD slot haha

I only just got a 3ds today you see.

What is special about RGF's Kernel? Will that help my detection problems?

I have decided to revive this ancient thread, even though this info may be useless to all involved in this post at this point.

Anyhow, I recently received an old R4i 1.41 card off a friend. He also gave me an original model DS.
Needless to say my R4i 1.41 didn't even show up as being inserted in the old DS. So I put it in my DSiXL which did read it, but could not load games off of it because of the out dated kernel.

I then decided to put R4 3DS software on the card instead and see what happened...

Low and behold, it works on the old DS now!!!
