Do you ever think that nintendo will ban gateway users once they update and try to use online after they're donw with their gateway?

Afaik the Gateway function as if it were a legitimate card. There is no way for Nintendo to know that you have been using a Gateway.

There is precedence to online banning with other companies and its entirely possible with Nintendo too.

Every word, letter, and punctuation dot in this post is wrong. The gateway is exploit based and even writes to the firmware. It is absolutely detectable.

Its really hard to tell what Nintendo is going to do. Although blocking the gateway will probably satisfy nintendo, I wouldn't take any chances. Keeping hacked systems offline as a matter of good practice. You might look into backing up your nand as insurance just in case.

Or get a second system (hello 2ds) for legit online stuff.

How would nintendo know - gateway does not work online
if you install the gateway exploit and then play a legit game the exploit is gone
next you update off a legit cart to the latest firmware and then go online - i doubt there would be any trace of it left.

I hope so.

Sorry guys, but I don't really want to see my favorite online games ruined again by some bored kid. If you want to use it, don't update your system and stay away from the online, that's all I ask!

Lol what do you mean by some bored kid

Not if you keep the WiFi off via the Switch ;)

Just my opinion.

Sony can't ban PS3s if they're not connected to the net c;

Did sony ban people after they updated there ps3s ? and didnt use the cfw anymore? because thats what i want to do play all my japanese single player imports and after update so i get rid of the gateway

I never play Pokemon for the online, but I can see why others would be super upset by 'modded' pokemon and rigged battles. It kind of takes the 'fun' out of the game for those who play online.

I doubt they can block GateWay if you leave the internet off. However, that said, I also hope GW will have an option, in the future, to use the WiFi connection. However, I hope that it blocks edits in the game's code to allow modifiers for pokemon and cheats.

The infrastructure doesn't support banning as of today and would have to be revamped entirely to do so. Hell, it doesn't even support accounts - what are we talking about? :P

The worst Nintendo can do right now is send you a postcard saying that you've been a naughty boy by pigeon mail, and that's only if you inform them that you're using a Gateway yourself and give them your address, seeing that they don't even have an account system set up yet. There is a certain amount of information that's sent to them as far as system reports are concerned but they have no means to act upon them because "Nintendo doesn't understand Online".

You mean if they go from CFW to OFW?

Well, I don't think so, however, I can't be 100% sure.

My friend's PS3 was hacked, then she updated it; never got banned.
