Gaming How SONY can "save" The PS VITA

Didn't watch the video but releasing a redesigned Vita without the OLED screen and touchpad would allow for a sizable price cut. Crossplay is overrated in terms of mainstream appeal, so getting rid of the touchpad really wouldn't hurt Vita that much. Somehow I don't see that many people rushing out to buy two copies of the same game.

I'd love to see some PS2 upgraded ports as well. The SSX games, in particular, would be great to get re-releases of. Racing games, imo, don't suffer too much in the small screen translation. Granted ports of ten year old games won't cause floods of new people to suddenly buy a Vita. But atleast you'll give current owners a bit more content to choose from.

DUDE, you do realize that's impossible right?

First of all, most people don't even buy the 3G version because let's be honest who needs 3G on their vita if they have it on their phone, and you can get the black ops bundle for $250, comes with a vita (wifi), black ops, AND A 4GB memory card. Now about ps plus, most people already have it on their ps3 so they wouldn't have to buy that and including ps plus in the cost of the vita is like including the price of plus in a ps3 and ps4, therefore the ps4 is $450. And if people don't have ps plus on their ps3 their probbly not just gonna get it for vita.

And, Their are way more retail games for the vita that are amazing other then katamari, have you forgotten about gravity rush (only for the vita), UC: Golden abyss (sure UC is on ps3 but golden abyss isn't), Soul sacrifice (amazing), Persona 4, dragons crown, dokuro, ps allstars, etc.
Gravity Rush? Never played.
Never cared for Persona series.
PS All stars is a blatant (and awful) ripoff of Smash Bros. And I did play that on PS3.
Uncharted? You mean the single most blatantly racist protagonist in the history of gaming? :p
Dragon's Crown looks interesting, I'll give you that.
Let's not bring up CoD... ever. CoD4 is the last title I actually purchased with my own money, and after playing the other entries thus far, it's been the only entry that has ever been worth the asking price. The series (especially the campaign) has degraded to the point of being not even worth pirating.

Yes, I would have to figure in PS Plus in the cost of a Vita, because it seems the only things really wroth having end up being through that, or basically the most cost effective way of being able to play a decent variety of stuff. I don't necessarily need to figure that into the cost of the PS3 because there is enough on retail disc now that I never have to consider getting PS Plus on a PS3. And once you start downloading stuff from PS Plus, that memory card will fill up fast, so a 32gig is practically a requirement... and at $100 for that, that's a steep fee just to have storage on the handheld (which is BS IMO - at least with the PSP it made sense because of the UMD drive).

Are you kidding me?

Are you kidding me?
It certainly seems that way, when you consider the stereotypical WASP male portrayed as the hero and every non-caucasian minority is depicted as a victim, traitor or cartoonishly evil "bad guy" in the franchise. Honestly, after reviews like that, it's a small wonder that Naughty Dog don't just put the guy in Klan robes and be done with it; it would certainly excuse a lot of his snark and behavior. If it were any more deliberate, he would be the Rule 63 of Clara from Drawn Together replete with the myriad of racially insensitive undertones this side of all the stink Capcom got with the African subject matter going on in Resident Evil 5.

Or ya know, it's just you over thinking things.

Uncharted is not racist. At all. It's people like you that are holding the world back. Maybe if you actually played the games, the main villains are supernatural beings. And even then, the villains you think are bad, are white. But NONE of that matters anyway. But hey, why stop at Uncharted, Indiana Jones is totally racist! Grow up.

And also, that Resident Evil 5 shit was faaarrr from being racist. I don't care if I have to wipe out the entire country of Africa, Mexico, China, Turkey, Italy or whatever. If you're a fucking Zombie, your race does not matter.

First of all, its your loss for not caring about persona while we enjoy it
PS all stars may have copied smash bros but still ALOT OF FUN (loved the supers concept)
I didnt bring up COD I was just saying that it come in the bundle

I have ps plus with an 8gb card and it's not bad at all. The only reason you would need a 32gb card is you would want to keep ever single game you download but I just delete when i'm done and if I get bored I just save on to cloud storage and if I want it again, I can download an game in 15 minutes top so ITS IS NOT REQUIRED.

I still don't see how PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is a rip-off of Smash Bros. when the mechanics are entirely different. It merely belongs in the same genre which is incredibly popular in Japan - being a brawler doesn't mean that it's copying anything. If you're going to be picky like this, I may as well say that Smash Bros. is ripping off all the brawlers I used to play at the arcade as a child.

EXACTLYYY

Okay first: NOTHING in Uncharted is supernatural. NOTHING!
Second: The main badguy is almost always white.
Third: The cannon fodder bad guys have all skin colors and come from all around the world
If Uncharted is anything, it's not racist but rather one of the best trilogys of this fading generation...

As for PBR being a Ripoff of SSB: simple: smash bros came first based on a japanese concept. IT'S NOT ABOUT IT BEING A BRAWLER! PBR rippes of SSB in terms of overall idea (mascot fight, not the fighting system) and the pure fact it was designed to do what smash bros did by a non japanese team simply to cash in on a SSB audience on the PS3/Vita. sure the game plays different but the idea, design and cocnept is a ripoff simple as that. if sonywould not have made a mascot fighter but instead a character fighter with new characters they wouldnt have had this problem. sales were abyssmal anyway so why bother? oh yeas right because it worked for nintendo...

its like mascot racers. mario kart set the standard because it was unique back in the day and nowadays everybody who does a kart racer is automatically compared to it. and the review then says: its a poor mans mario kart.

and if oure a gamedesigner and DONT KNOW that then you are a fucking bad game designer and you deserve your game to sell badly. becaue game design is psychology and its psychologically obvious what happens if you release a game that is obviously inspired by something it will be compared to what inspired it... see call of duty/battlefield. that doesnt make for a bad game mind you it just sets the comparison bar so high, especially if nintendo made the original...

Uhh... No? Mascot Brawlers are a genre, it's not weird to see them. Think "Jump Stars Ultimate", think "Dream Mix TV - World Fighters", Smash Bros. is not the only game of its kind and it never was.

Saying that it's "stealing the concept of Smash Bros." is ridiculous when said concept is widely accepted - you might as well say that the WiiMote is "stealing the concept" of a TV remote because it "is long and has buttons".

Same with kart games, really - "Crash Team Racing", "Konami Krazy Racers", "Diddy Kong Racing" - I could go on forever. Just because those two popularized their two genres doesn't mean that they're the ultimate and everything else is a rip-off.

i didnt say steal i said obviously inspired and made by a western team and its the combination. sorry but it is OBVIOUS it was intended to be a ripoff. simple psychology. i told you its not about the fact that its a brawler its about the fact that this game was obviously created to run the SSB hype train. if it was from ANY other company than sony you wuld agree with me but seeing as you constantly argue with me about simple facts, even though i saw you being right about other thigns a lot, when it comes to topics like this you always react the same and truth be told at this point i really enjoy trolling you and pulling your strings. i know i should stop but i cant it really amuses me.

that being said, personally i dont give a shit anyway but the TV remote and Wiimote analogy is idiotic because nintendo themself said the wiimote was inspired by a TV remote. and now please excuse me i log out of this thread i'm off to eat. have fun kids :)

All stars takes the same concept, and yet somehow makes it worse. Despite its spectacle face, there are some surprisingly deep mechanics in Smash bros. that were either ignored or not replicated appropriately in ASBR. The fact that you need to build up a special just to eliminate anybody at all is IMO a step in the wrong direction, and contributes to many a cheap death in the game. At least when you're already at 100+% damage in SSB, you know you have to be careful if you want to stay in the fight.

Just like the move is a blatant and poorer ripoff of what the Wii remote already did. Yes, I get it uses the camera to get and ascertain additional information. But it still doesn't improve the experience at all. If anything, the experience is made worse because of the mandatory recalibration EVERY SINGLE TIME you launch a move-compatible game, and the fact that no PS Move bundles actually include the nav portion of the product, while having the audacity to start making games that required two dildo wands per player at $50 a pop is ludicrous. And none of the games that I would even halfway be interested enough in getting a PS Move kit for even use the "improved" functionality that it's supposed to provide at all, since I'd only be getting it for No More Heroes (since I played the heck out of it on Wii already) and the rail shooters that aren't already available on Wii (like Time Crisis).

Except, er, All-Stars didn't exactly become incredibly popular in Japan did it :P.
Ill conceived - props to Sony for trying, but there simply isn't the wealth of characters available to them that Nintendo has... Only Sega has a shot at rivaling Smash Bros, and they'd probably balls the whole thing up anyway....

Anyway, I don't have a Vita. I don't rate the machine, I care not for the games on it (at least not to the point of shelling out for one), and I still have a major problem with the price of those fukkin memory cards.....
However!! "PS4 Remote Play" - as a big fan of playing Wii U games/VC on the GamePad, I'll be all over this! In fact when I get round to picking up a PS4, I'll be grabbing a Vita at the same time. Pretty sure I'm not the only one that's thinking like this either! Never gonna compete with the 3DS in the sales dept (but wasn't ever going to!), but there's still a market for it!
