Gaming some 3ds xl questions...

Hi guys. After a week of looking I finally found new 3ds xl blue off ebay for 150 . I didnt receive it yet though. I have a few questions I would like to ask:

1-) What is a game you guys prefer for me to buy first? (love mario and zelda games).

2-)I plan on buying one of those R4 cards for the 3ds xl but not sure which one to get and where to get it? ( the last one i bought for my ds lite turned out to be a clone )

3-)should i update my 3ds xl because people prefer not to do it?

Mario and Zelda games are always a good choice. There are many great games for the 3DS. Check out the free demos in the eshop and play before you buy. Don't know much about the R4. I have a DSTWO Supercard that is an incredible flashcart. You can buy either the R4 or the DSTWO at nds-card and you would be supporting the gbatemp site. Since I see that you are from the U.S. I would tell you that I did order my first DSTWO from nds-card and they are a great site with great customer service but when I ordered mine there was some new power chips, I believe it was, in the card that would not work with the 3DSXL. Something about the boot time. They were going to replace the card no problem at all but it costs more than you paid for the card to send it back. I ended up keeping that card as it worked fine in my DSiXL. The power chip problem has been taken care of by the way. I would love to see other ways to support the site. I ordered another card from RealHotStuff and it works fine in my 3DSXL. As far as updating goes if you plan to get a Gateway card I would not update the console. But you will not be able to buy any games from the eshop if you don't. I believe that the people who are new to the 3DSXL are going to be the only people who would benefit from the Gateway card. I personally haven't bought one and won't unless they can make it work with all future updates. Crossing my fingers but not holding my breath. Have fun with your 3DSXL!

thanks guys!I'll probably take super mario 3d land and legend of zelda ocarina of time into consideration. As for the r4, I think 40 bux is alot. maybe something around the 20s? The annoying thing is I wanted to buy a 3ds xl so bad but a console needs games and games cost like 35 bux each if not more. So I feel like in the end im spending so much on it...

I do plan on buying the gateway 3ds flash cart maybe in a month or 2. So if im doing that it is preferred that i dont update correct? But what if a game forces an update on me?

I believe that all cards have been permanently blocked on the 3DS except for the R4 and DSTWO. I had an Acekard2i and it got permanently blocked but I still have my DSiXL and it works on that. There is a site you can go to that tells you what the firmware is on games. 3ds.essh.co Not sure offhand what games force an update. I'm sure it's probably in the forum somewhere.

Definitely don't update the 3DSXL past 4.5 if you plan on getting a Gateway. They're trying to get them to work on 5.x, 6.x, etc, but who knows if they'll ever succeed or if they do how long it will be.

Definitely get a DSTWO. It has yet to be blocked by any update since release (meaning it's been block, but the Team has always come out with a patch.) $40 is a lot but, well, you know, it'll be worth it in the end.

You can always get an R4 Gold, which is good for the time being and cheap. It been stumped but the Team has either come out with a patch or has released a new card.

I would strongly recommend you spend $40 and get the DSTWO. I got a R4 gold right at the time the new firmware came out and required an cut made to the card. I didn't do the cut and just stuck with 5.X firmware.
