Not yet.. This is the first we've heard of this announcement.

Probably no patching because the roms would be unsigned (unless they also figured out signature bypassing, but they would have probably said so if they did).
It'll likely be an updated loader.

Just because we have Gateway doesn't mean we're gonna get a cfw any time soon. It'll most likely take a long time.

Nothing. Parental controls just allow you to stay offline without accidentally turning it back on, or something similar.

I just want to send a gentle reminder to all the trolls and doubters and haters who in these very forums said things like gateway is a fake, gateway is crap, gateway will never materialize.......uhhh apparently you were WRONG. It has now materialized. They found a fairly painless way of handling the save games, it is exploit based, they likely will be able to get around running newer firmware games and multi regions and maybe even a multi game menu and homebrew. Now they may never get it working on anything past 4.5 hardware but it looks like people have figured out how to do a downgrade so we will likely see a downgrade kit to simplify this process coming soon. SO FU sceptics this sucker is for real and those of us that had a little faith and pre-ordered should have our units like next week and be on our way to a more open and interesting 3DS experience.

Downgrading (at this time) is only possible if you dumped your own NAND before you updated. If you didn't (like most people) and updated to 5.1, 6.1, 6.2, etc. beforehand, you can't downgrade.

I was able to get a 4.5 xl like new on amazon for $170. I agree that finding new exploits aren't easy. I wanted to get one because i didn't want to miss out on homebrew and regret not buying an xl when i had the chance.

Today must be my lucky day. I was able to find a guy on Craigs List that had a 1.5 year old new/never opened black 3DS that he sold to me for $120 tonight. I get it home and charge it and power it and it is on firmware 1.0. He got it for xmas in 2011 and is a college student and just never got around to playing with it. He even threw in one of those launch accesory kits with the case, and car charger and headphones also unoppened. God I love CL. Now I have a OFW XL and a gateway 3DS. I sold my launch 3DS in April when I went XL but you know I actually like things about both units. The XL has the bigger screen but I like the compactness of the standard and the placement of the 4 way pad better. I also think the 3D is a little easier to maintain the effect on the smaller 3DS but maybe that is just me. Oh well I am set either way now if I could only have my abassador games on both systems....lol

Lol great to hear. ya craigslist is amazing. I got my wii u 32 gb brand new for only $220. My xl with 4.5 is coming in the mail tomorrow XD. Can't wait

Lol directly from 3dbrew... The flaw was already know by the devs, gateway simply brings a way to exploit it.

I think (PLEASE for the love of god don't start a flamewar if i said something wrong), that we can expect a softmod exploit in roughly 2-3 months.
Maybe a little bit later or a little bit sooner.
I mean some people are now researching Loader.dat from the Blue Gateway 3DS card, so yeah maybe the devs can find some clues from that.

Hey guys I am going to try something today to see if it works.....I am going to install the gateway DS hack and launcher on my 3DS and then put the system in gateway mode. Then I am going to put in an official cart and go into the game and do a home/close and see if it creates a backup .sav file on the 3DS SD card. That would be super useful if it does because I want to backup the save file of a handful of 3DS games I have finished and want to trade in but would like to keep my save file incase I ever wan't to revist them later on gateway. If it creates the file then when I get my gateway I will see if that file will reload into the gateway and work.....if not then I am hoping to get a r4 save dongle and that it will either read and write the gateway cart or someone will make a save game converter to convert gateway .sav file to a r4 save file.....I will report my findings back later today.

Authentic games don't work in Gateway mode.
