as has been said, after WinXP MS decided that you should only be able to set your MAC to ones starting with certain hex values. Getting this to completely work on newer versions of windows is almost impossible.
Even someone good at batch scripting wouldn't be able to fix this. Our best bet is finding where the restriciton is in windows and disabling it, but seeing as there're options for linux, android, mac, and routers (linux routers there doesn't seem to be much motivation to try to figure out windows.

You won't be able to take the restriction off in windows newer than 7 without rebuilding its core due to the way it handles wireless.
XP works though... but since I'm the only one doing this on XP I guess i'm on my own for this. :|

Guys, from today please all migrate to
SSID attwifi
MAC 4E:53:50:4F:4F:46 or "NSPOOF" ASCII (:40-:4F at last octet for group addresses)
I will start using this values from tonight 01:00am UTC+4

attwifi have no restrictions on some APs and 4E at the first octet have no restriction on Windows 7/Vista, so we all will have more diversity with StreetPass.

Next week I'll update script for DD-WRT and we will have a title-dependent ASCII-readable addresses for each StreetPass-compatible games.

I'm giving up on linux for this. Too many headaches and homicidal urges. Where is the guide for XP? Still have a very old laptop running this, or at least it did the last time I fired that one up (plus several XP keys for the aforementioned netbooks)

I dug out my old WRT54G (v2.2) router and reinstalled DDWRT on it. I am able to see Nintendo Zone and connect, but I can't get any passes. I installed InSSIDer and I can see its broadcasting the right MAC address. Could my version of the WRT54G be the problem?

Couldn't recompile macshift to my needs nor find a different solution so I made a batch script as seen above. Is going through each of the MAC's in sequence an option that any of you would be interested? Or is it bad and I should keep my evil devices to myself?

Well, I did something and now its working. All I did is switch to one of the MACs near Nintendo World Store and it started pulling them down.

Upon entering this:

sudo ./wifi_zone.sh

I was greeted with the following message:

Unspecified error, shutting down all support processes!

I can see the attwifi network on my phone. 3DS is not picking it up. Also, it is not picking up the Nintendo Zone. I shut off the wireless on the other 7 units.

Realized I may not have edited dnsmasq.conf

Did that, now seeing a bad option at line 121, which is

dhcp-range=10.0.0.3,10.0.0.20,12h

Well if you donwloaded my version of the script ((and didnt renamed it) it should be sudo ./wifi_zone

Bad option at line 121 that must be because you havent edited the file correctly, make sure you are at the top of the file and paste the code thats on the guide

If you still can not change MAC address by the methods above, you can try this one
This is for Atheros, but please be warned, this is slow, because it is almost equal to a complete reboot, and this can result in wearing out your router's flash so in several numerous cycles your router can be bricked, though normal flash should survive several thousands of rewrites.

However, it appears to be broadcasting. Nothing is connecting.

Are you hand typing or copying and pasting?
Also try rebooting your computer, it may some times solve it

Hand typing for the edits. I c&p-ed the scripts between computers.


And I think I restarted it like 10 times in the last few hours.

A google search suggested I add a line in dnsmasq.conf, so I did and restarted again. Now getting this error

dnsmasq: failed to bind dhcp server socket: Address already in use.

What's baffling me is that it is broadcasting the attwifi signal. It's just not connecting.
