4. and Acekard2I never "needed" a hardware revision either. it works fine on my DS Phat, DS Lite, and DSi XL with 1.4.3 firmware. so i don't see what the problem is.
Ak2i HWID 81 (the last model) stopped working on 3DS firmware 4.4.x. HWID 44 stopped working on DSi firmware 1.4.3 and 3DS firmware 2.1.x.

So yes, they did put out multiple models that have differing ranges of compatibility, and yes they would need to put out a new hardware model if they wanted to work on recent firmwares for the DSi/3DS.

hmm, interesting.

well my next question is can i install Wood firmware on the Supercard?
or at the very least bypass that weird First menu the SC takes you to.

Can't complain. The slidepad improves FPS Gameplay by quite some degree.

I still keep my original DS nonetheless.

I really hated that ugly big-iconed menu my R4i first came with, I think it was a non-wood firmware, but I could boot into Wood from it. It could also boot Moonshell and other stuff too, but it somewhat mirrored the looks of the DSi menu, with the horizontal scrolling. Does anyone recall what firmware/kernel this might be?

That? It's the R4i Gold Kernel, they told me it was called.

whaaaaa?

did you mean First Person Shooters?, i thought most FPS on DS had the Dpad stuck to movement only, so in other words, the slide pad would only move the character, not aim the gun. pretty pointless.

the only exception was Goldeneye, if i recall. all the Call of Duty games required the touchscreen for ADS Aiming.

Even with only 8-way digital controls, the circle pad feels a billion times more natural and comfortable than a dpad for moving characters in a 3D space.

but you still have to use the stylus right? on the PSP (medal of honor) i usually set it up the PSPs analog nub as "Aim", and the X,O,[],/\, buttons as Movement. i was dissapointed i couldent get a similar setup with 3DS but no luck.

having an analog and not using it to AIM just seems wrong.

and it depends on the game, i found Mario 64 impossible with the slider, because it wasn't made for that type of control. the character will veer slightly left or right because you cant get it perfectly UP.

cool consumer advice bro

Yeah, but that's besides the point. Obviously, there's no real resolution to the issue of no second analog for aiming. I'm just saying that the analog is LOADS comfortable for any kind of 3D movement, rather than keeping your thumb permanently mashed on the tiny DS dpad (on any version of the DS) with the point corners jutting into it when you press diagonal (something you'll do a lot in 3D games).

And yes, I know the stylus is generally less comfy (unless you have a thumb stylus, like I do), but it's LOADS more accurate for aiming than an analog could ever be (I would go so far as to compare it to a mouse for PC games). Why would I willingly use a much less accurate, unintuitive way of aiming, like face buttons, when the touch screen is so much better?

As for Super Mario 64, I haven't played it in a while on my 3DS, but my experience was opposite of yours. I found myself making much fewer mistakes when using the analog than when using the dpad.

*sound on a 3ds xl is wayyy to low. you can hardly hear anything. but at least the ds lite sound can be remedied by a speaker attachment, or just using headphons.
That's definitely opinionated, since the sound on a 3DS XL beats the DS Lite by far, no contest.

*buy a grip. third party accessories for the win!, every handheld after the origional grey brick and gamegear are awkward and uncomfortable. they all need a grip. the XL is still too Thin to hold, and the dpad placement makes it even worse.

technically, the Lite is easier to hold than a GB Micro. and a gbmicro is easier to hold than a pokemon mini.
Well that sucks for you, cause I'm totally fine with how my 3DS XL feels

I don't see the point in buying a grip for my DS Lite when I'm totally fine with how the 3DS XL feels, and it has much better sound quality...

*your lite is broken. need to take better care of your handhelds.
Let me just say that I take great care of my handhelds. I have never dropped my DS Lite, ever, and I've owned it since 2008. There is not a single scratch on my DS Lite, and I have never taken it out in public. Also, all of my friend's DS Lites are in 10x worse condition than mine, cause they've dropped it millions of times. If you actually do your research, you'll find out that the white screen problem is actually a pretty common problem with the DS Lite, so quit jumping to conclusions and assume I drop my handhelds all the time. My DS Lite looks brand new, and I'll even take a picture to prove it if you ask.

*again, same resolution as select trick.
No actually. The resolution trick on a 3DS XL makes it the same size as a DSi, which has bigger screens than a DS Lite (I've played a DSi before)

And also, if you use the resolution trick on a 3DS XL, not only do you get a DSi sized screen, but the added bonuses of playing it on a 3DS XL means you get the better sound-quality, and more effective stereo sound due to farther physical placement of the speakers, a system that's actually comfortable to hold (feels fine to me, sucks for you guys that aren't fine with the 3DS XL), albeit your stuck with a stupid black border around the screen. In my opinion, the ideal way to play DS games would be a DSi or DSi XL, since from what I've read the sound quality, like the 3DS, is also better than DS Lite, but you get to play it fullscreen at original resolution. If I had the money, I would get a DSi.

As a 3DS XL owner, I can say that DS games on the console look amazing. The console is easier to hold than a DS Lite, and using the analog stick is much more comfortable for me than using the D-pad.

DS Lite's have a nice design and are inexpensive. However, they are small, crampy, mechanical flawed, and don't register touch input as well as newer handhelds.

Not to mention the L and R buttons occasionally stop working and so does the hinge.

3DS is a horrible way to play DS Games. for one thing the display is stretched out to fit the higher resolution of the 3DS, so DS games look blurry and washed out. and if you set it to the proper resolution by holding SELECT, then it displays the same size as a DS Lite / DSi anyway.

thinking about the Analog Stick? think again. it still only registers 4-directions, DS is Digital control only. so there is really NO advantage to using it over the D-pad. and actually its even WORSE, Super Mario 64 is impossible with the slider pad, (i could not get the chain chomp off the leash after hours of trying), and even if you wanted to use the D-Pad they moved it down so far its now uncomfortable to access.

I could not disagree with you more. The 3DS works way better on games like Mario 64 & Animal Crossing and while owning both I notice no difference in the way it displays. The only advantage the DS has over the 3DS is that they no longer update so the flashcarts will always work.

don't get me wrong, the slider is great for RPGS, and games where you have to keep a direction pressed, but Fighting or Strategy games Not so much. but it depends on the game. and i cant say i regret playing all the DS games on a DS Before the 3DS came out. its only a minor issue or inconvenience either way.

i find you get used to whatever controls you're using over time. just like people say that Sanwa or Happ Arcade sticks are better for Street Fighter tournaments, but a SNES controller works just as good.

Dude, this guy created 2 threads about the DS, one about his ''beloved CycloDS'' and another about ''getting a DS Lite'', we don't give a shit if you're fan boying over CycloDS and a DS Lite, the 3DS XL is way better than the DS Lite, the only good thing about the DS Lite is it can play GBA NATIVELY, despite that NOTHING ELSE is good about the DS Lite.
So not everyone needs to get a DS Lite because you want so, and we dont care how ''the DS Lite is cheaper'' people are spending their money, not yours.

There's a lot of people that complain that Nintendo updated the firmware of their 3DS, and their flashcarts don't work anymore. The easy fix is to not update your 3DS, or purchase a DS lite. I think that the OP was aiming this thread at those that updated their 3DS. Nobody is forcing anybody to do anything.
