PSP can be charged using USB, so would a USB-to-power-outlet adapter work as a charging method?

I am interested in alternate ways of charging my PSP. I find the charging cables too long. (and the fact there are two of them, like a notebook computer)

One idea I had is to get the spare battery charger, and just use that. (no sleep mode that way, though)

But if I can use USB-to-wall adapter (assuming those exist outside of iPad, or if the iPad one will work fine) then I can just get one, and get a really short USB cable! Too cool!

edit: The shortest USB cable on monoprice is 1.5 feet, but that's good enough.

edit: yes, this is exactly what I want:
http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10831&cs_id=1085101&p_id=8857&seq=1&format=2
or this which I guess is better, it's cheaper and has only 1 usb slot instead of 2: http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...10831&cs_id=1085102&p_id=10273&seq=1&format=2
those seem to be the only 2 products on monoprice that fit the bill, All the rest have 4 or more USB slots and are bigger.

Now if only my Nintendo handhelds could be charged this way!

What, too long? I almost never use my official PSP-3000 charger because the cord is much too short (about 1 meter long). I mostly charge it with a 3rd party PSP mini-USB plus charger plug cable.
I don't know what output the the Ipod charger has, but it should be normal for USB (5V). Everything around 5V should work if it has enough Ampere. 500-1000 mA should suffice, although it will take longer than with a normal charger. Ie the charger that came with my PSP has 2400 mA if I remember correctly. But most USB wall chargers should work.
Oh and by the way, there are USB cables for all Nintendo handhelds since the GBA SP. I have one for GBA SP/DS Phat, works good.

Really? Sounds pretty strange, I would have thought most devices charge normally when the get the right current through a power jack.

I used to have a Rocketfish USB cable for PSP which had an additional plug that goes in the PSP power jack.

So there's that too. Though its only benefits I figure are, maybe, compatibility with PSP-1000 and not having to leave the PSP on.

I'm surprised this would matter. I thought USB is USB and it shouldn't matter the voltage.
It's not like you have to worry about voltage when plugging a USB device into a PC or notebook.
But this is the 2nd time someone brought up voltage in response to my idea.
So by all means help me understand. o.o;

Where may I get these? I might want one for 3DS XL.

USB Wall adapter + USB cable can work IF and only IF the unit is on :P

yeap I had figured as much, but I don't foresee that as being a problem.

The voltage of the Ipod charger should be fine, I think Apple does normal USB, but I'm not entirely sure and too lazy too look up. And I don't like Apple.
All standard USB has the same voltage, so that is nothing to worry about. With USB you mainly have to worry about about having enough ampere, but judging by my PSP-3000 if it can charge a Iwhatever it can charge a PSP.
I don't know for sure what voltage the PSP expects (I think 5V), but Nintendo DSi/3DS uses 4.6V, so some people claim that USB cables can damage the battery. I don't know if any of it is true. Amazon sells some Nintendo DSi/DSi XL/3DS/3DS XL (all the same plug) USB cables, at least on the German site. You should find something there if you want them, or most other sites/stores with a decent selection of Nintendo handheld accesories.
Sorry if my writing is a bit convoluted, I think the heat is getting to me a bit. If you need clarification feel free to ask.

oh, is that saying my DSi charger will work on my 3DS XL? Sweet, thanks.

...they always have, even the official charger. It's literally the same plug between all of the DS models that have a camera, so DSi and onwards up through and currently including the 3DS XL.

On topic - Apple chargers do indeed carry 5v. PSP charger, if I'm not mistaken, is 5v 1A, the Apple charger (depending on what device it's intended for) ought to charge between 5v 500mA and 5v 2.1A. THAT will be fine.

I'm in the process of hardmodding my slim 3k PSP to charge via miniUSB even when it's off. Needed a new soldering iron and super fine tip and then gave up. It's sitting in pieces on my desk -_-

It was even the reason Iwata(?) gave in the 3DS XL Iwata asks for not packaging the 3DS XL with a charger (except in the US). Something like "this is the 4th device we make with the same charger, most people will have one already". I assume the real reason was to get the price slighty under 200€/19.000¥.

unless you wanna hardware mod it

Really? I have only been able to get mine to USB charge when connected to a PC and it has to be in USB mode. Very Annoying. My PS3 controllers seem to be the same way, PC or PS3 which has to be on to charge it. It all seems pretty silly to me, you have voltage at the USB port these things should charge.

Even worse it seems that when using POPS if I put it in sleep it still drains the battery really quick, dies over night. This has resulted in me leaving the house with a dead PSP with no way to charge. PSP games in sleep mode seems to hardly use any charge at all.

depends on your PSP I found the USB to PSP DC In to be useless on 1k models

I gots a USB to mini/micro idk USB / PSP DC cable.

Works perfectly fine with me 1K ;]
Charge it from me lappie whilst playing on me PSP and it has no problem~

My 1k could at best just hold the charge it had with a usb to 5v charger port cable and if it was off / sleeping than it would take 4x longer to charge but given USB Ports normally output 5v @ 500mA and a standard wall charger is 5v @ 2000mA I understand why.

Though some laptops and desktops do push more mA to the USB ports for "fast charging" so that could have something to do with it.

Oh aye, I got some sweet multi one that does my Micro, SP, DSLite, PSP and Apple Devices (not lightning connector) it also does DSi and such too but since I don't have one I didn't care, But I got that hooked up to my HP Brand Mains to USB wall adapter that pumps out 1000mA for faster charging or charging 2 things at once from the same cable :D

In settings it tells me 6.60 PRO-C2 and it is a PSP3000

I followed the hacking sticky from this forum.

If I connect a USB charger to my USB it says" Please wait..... If the host does not detect blah blah" basically try to turn off USB recharge in order to connect. I get no indication of charging.

My battery is already fully charged when I try this however, I am just trying to test it out. Is that maybe my issue?
