Gaming Best system for DS/GBA games.

Hi there,

I want to replay all the GBA and DS games I played when i was younger, and I heard the DsTwo was capable of playing them so i wanted to ask which system i should get to play them. I am not a huge fan of the XL versions of the Ds and 3DS family. Neither of the 3D systems.

So basically it comes down to a Dslite or Dsi, which one should i get/do you preffer, and why?

DS Lite has a GBA slot and can play games natively. This means almost perfect compatibility and full speed.

The DSTwo emulates and is not perfect, but works on later models.

CBA by the save batteries + I can't play gameboy color games ( forgot to mention). But if playing with DsTwo, should I go for the DsI or Dslite. Price diffrence is minimal, heard the Dsi has a lot better shoulder buttons tho (+ very nice colours!)

Here comes the best of the best for all gameboy games.

1st Generation GB games: Best version: Gameboy Light: only released in Japan, has original backlight, looks and feels perfect. 2nd Best: GBA SP AGS 101: has backlit screen and colorizes most black and white gameboy games.

2nd Generation GBC games: Best version: GBA SP AGS 101: Has backlit screen, looks great. much better than original gbc.

3rd Generation GBA games: Best version: GBA SP AGS 101: look above. 2nd Best: DS lite: again has backlit screen, it also has stereo built-in speakers. it is only second because it lacks multiplayer in GBA mode and views the picture with black borders because of screen resolution difference. DStwo is your last choice here worse than gba, gba sp ags 001, gba micro and original fat ds.


Between the DS lite and DSi, i would advise DS lite for gba compatibility. extra dsi features aren't necessary and the screen quality doesn't differ a lot from what i have read.

GB/C games work via emulation on the DS just fine.

The DSi's screen is larger and sharper than the DS Lite's, and it's going to be easier to find a DSi in good condition I think. The DSTwo's functionality on the two would be the same, though you could likely get more battery life with an aftermarket battery for the Lite.

yup, it works fine, though not perfect. i still prefer to use my gba sp and gameboy light for my gb/c need. i try to avoid emulation at all whenever i can.

Just for those 2 game systems only i think the best is the DS IMO . play gba games on a ez flash 4 on slot 2 with almost no problem and on slot 1 your flash cart of choice.
its also compatible with guitar hero (if you want to try it since its the only system that can play it).

DS Lite. Period. End of discussion. It's the only one that plays both natively and has acceptable screen brightness. 2nd best would be DS Phat ... screen brightness is poor, but still it does have slots for both.

But my solution is an AGS-101 for GBA, and a DSi XL for DS. Both provide (IMHO) the best experience for their respective platforms.

Same here man, exactly the same
AGS-101 for GBA with an M3 Perfect mini SD
and
Sudokuhaxed DSiXL with an AK2i.......I can play just about anything I trow at them.

Oh and for GB/GB color games ( even though I own a GB bridge + F2A card and I can play them natively on the GBA ) , there is the excellent Gameyob emulator that makes them so much better on the DSiXL screen !

To me, the best system for GB and GBC games is a modded frontlit GBC.

I do have a GB Light and I'm disappointed by how it looks compared to my GBC even for b/w games. The GBC is just so much easier on the eyes.

And I don't like letterboxed o stretched gb/gbc games on GBAs.

For non L/R-intensive games, the micro is currently the system I use the most.

I personally think the DS Lite is far better considering it is all that is required for the thousands of DS Homebrew apps, has the best battery life, and is less expensive than the DSi. Like mentioned previously, it can emulate GBA games perfectly (Though from experience, DSTwo has done that as well), and there arent much/any DSi-mode homebrews and only a few (meaning around 2) exploits have been found to install homebrew.

So wait, now you don't want to play GBA anymore? It's much better to go with the DS Lite since it supports GBA games natively. If you go with the DSi you'd have to use emulation which isn't even close. Also, don't go with the Supercard DSTwo, it's a battery hog so get an Acekard 2i or one of those cheap R4 clones that get updated all the time, those will have much better battery life. I don't even use my Supercard DSTwo anymore since the additional battery drain sucks.

If i were you, i would buy a DS Phat or DS Lite, because then you CAN play GBA games, and emulate GB/GBC games perfectly on your flashcard (if you have one?).
