Who said that it ''NEEDS'' to be in Ds mode?

The fact that other than that, the only way is to execute 3DS native code, a feat no one has accomplished thus far, even though a bunch of capable hackers on 3dbrew are working on it.

So I had a few thoughts today.

What does the Gateway 3DS cart look like in the 3DS without a Micro SD card in it? Blank space, or the image of the last game played?
When does the 3DS check the 3DS Rom's integrity to make sure Nintendo's signature wasn't broken.
Is there a game that doesn't check the data on the cart for a period of time? (Like the PS2 exploit, where the disc stops spinning. So data isn't being read. Or even with the Gamecube where a game like Animal Crossing's so small it's loaded into memory and the disc doesn't even spin. You can take the disc out without it spewing an error.)
Can we hotswap Micro SD cards while the device is in the 3DS, without it freezing up. (Linked to the question above.)

Any of you know where I'm going with this? Pretty sure its been thought of, but figured I'd ask. Create a modified 3DS rom image, flash a stock rom image to a Micro SD card and the modified one to another one. Boot up the stock rom, get to the point where the game isn't reading data from the cart, and swap out the Micro SD cards.

Just a thought while out on the town, if any of you valid 3DS scene experts can shoot me down feel free to.

Every time Alerts tells me you posted in this thread, I immediately think "OH CRAP HE GOT THE GATEWAY." Stop disappointing me, Devin!

Ontopic: that seems promising. Hopefully it's not as annoying as the PS2 one (I think you had to be pretty quick for it to work). I could use my crappy 8GB card, and then buy a class 10 32GB card for the swap.

Create a modified 3DS rom image
ROM data is encrypted. We don't even have public key to decrypt it, no one succeeded so far in ripping 3ds game resources.. What "modified 3DS rom image" are you talking about? And it won't read decrypted data as well, you need to re-encrypt it back (not possible without private key, which is never stored in 3ds itself).

I don't claim to be a scene expert, and don't think I speak for everyone, but personally, I'd rather just wait until we have actual, first-hand information. Then we can speak factually, rather than engage in further pointless speculation.

We have about 2 more weeks until you get your review sample, Devin. At this stage, conjecture will just create false hope and unrealistic expectations in the average temper's mind. Especially if it's the scene experts making educated guesses.

I'm figured 3DSGuy might have something up his sleeves, considering he was able to make a tool to edit 3DS roms to some extent. We'll just have to see.

Your SD hotswapping idea may work if your goal is launching unmodified different region ROMs. It's definitely worth trying. Improper region genuine gamecard doesn't even shows as icon in menu.

As much as I agree with you on pretty much every point. These are questions that I'd like answered (Minus the Gateway 3DS ones as no one has one yet.), but there are questions that can be answered.

The two questions being the one about when a integrity check is taken, and if there's a 3DS game that at a point doesn't access the cart for data. Other than those two things I was really thinking in general. And right, if all goes as expected I should get it in about 2 weeks. Until then I'll leave the speculation up in the air.

Fair enough. I'm just saying that if you want to avoid confusing folks, the Gateway thread may not be the best place for this new conversational direction.

Also, I really hate people who play wannabe mod. BRB - gonna go shoot myself in the face.

Ive asked them about the save issue, got this answer:

sorry is there a review from the GBAtemp yet? i heard you got a sample?
Keep your eye on the front page. I'm sure there'll be a news story about it when Devin gets it and/or reviews it. Gateway is supposed to be released at the end of the month, and they said they'd send out the review samples a few days before then, so we'll hopefully have a review by July 1st.

I changed my mind about everything after actually thinking about it properly., my post was wrong and probably all the assumptions of it's functionality if its alone the line i'm thinking.. this featureless 1:1 mode is for a reason, for the time being, and an update will change a lot. I doubt there will be any clones either. It's going to be pretty funny..
