So the Wii U is just going to become a very expensive router between the cloud and the Gamepad?

For Nintendo. That's cause they're doomed.

Latest update: Iwata has spotted a cloud that looks kind of like a bunny; the next Mario game, Uber Mario Bros*, will feature a bunny suit.

*It was between that and Nü Super Mario Bros, give me a break.

Agreed. To take advantage of the Cloud, you need an online infrastructure that doesn't suck. :)

Cloud gaming as a whole isn't reliable at all. Inconsistent internet infrastructures doesn't help. Not everyone has reliable, stable or fast internet. Severs fail, they crash, they get DDOS attacks. Cloud gaming isn't the future.

I don't understand why people keep saying they're doomed. Give them get a chance as it has only been half a year. So what if Nintendo drops what will benefit out of that. No more great first party games and trust me Nintendo has the best 1st party franchises. Just last week with the xbox one showcase everyone was angry over the fact that it was a Fancy cable box but come on it hasn't even come out yet and I'm not even an Microsoft fan boy.

I think you missed the joke and sarcasm of Nintendoomed? It's been a joke around the internet for at least as long as the modern internet has been around. Nintendo has a load of money to spend and it will take a while to spend it all even if the newest and finest consoles didn't make money (while Nintendo is at an operating loss at the moment, it doesn't mean it won't have an operating profit in a few months/years).

As for cloud computing, I'd prefer not. It's not the worst idea in terms of boosting an existing consoles power, but after said cloud servers are down, you'll probably not be able to play said games anymore..

I think Nintendo going with the most popular and basic Cloud Stuff (optional savegames on the cloud, universal accounts that can be used on more than one system, Miis on the cloud, achievement system, etc) is good, of course. The problem starts when they put DRM on everything and you have to be online even to play offline games. *cough*XBone*cough*

1) As mentioned, that doesn't mean DRM.
2) If they do this, that doesn't mean they are stopping at hardware and using cloud as the only option. They can do both.
3) They can allow cloud enhance games.
4) This doesn't mean they will actually do it.
